Once long ago I knew a man inside that hid from this world,
Knocked down by the hard knocks of opportunitys fair song,
He understood not much of this world but only of himself,
The world seemed too far away like another persons dream
Crushed and confined by the restricted perceptions of life,
A life not lived because of an innability to understand it,
He was lonely and alone in a world full of other people,
People that he someday would realise were just like him.
Once not long ago I knew a man who woke up one morning,
To the sound of the world and sight of the sun rising,
Rising as it did yesterday and as it will tommorow,
Opportunity knocked and he took the blow in his stride,
He looked into the eyes and souls of all the other people,
And saw nothing but a reflection of his own memories,
Stopped floating above the world as a silent observer,
And joined the other lost souls in the search for meaning.
Today I know a man who is not any more sure than he was,
When he thought himself lost in the confusing maze of life,
But today and more importantly tommorow he will still know,
That he is not trapped or alone in this body and mind,
He can take heed in the fact that we are all alone together,
And that the sun will rise in unison with opportunity,
The questions that once haunted now create a drive,
To understand and know the man that I am today.
