I just gave a total stranger $200, Have i done the wrong thing?

bostonguy9, i wish i was a multi millionaire and could spend all my days doing random acts of kindness...Youd be the first!

I would say it was a good thing. I mean - the woman probably enjoyed the sight of the $200? Of course she did - doubt she went off and pondered the evilness behind it. If anything it's weird that you did xD

Quite lucky stuff. Weird act of fate.

That was very nice of you MK, as stated acts like that can do a lot more than just the act of giving someone money.. Whether or not this person goes back and throws it all back into a gambling machine, is irrelevant. I've done something similarish.. - Back when I was living in London, I did my shopping @ the same local grocerystore most times. There was this dude I had come to talk to, who used to stand outside with his guitar playing. He was one of those type of people that get everything thrown at them in life, and I honestly felt sorry for him. His partner also had a young baby girl. Frequently gave him any spare change that I could afford. Anyway one day I had randomly bought a £2 ScratchCard/Ticket, and won £500. I proceeded to fill up a basket with everything you would need for about 2 weeks for a small family, ended up with like 3 shopping bags full of food/household things/nappies & baby wipes etc ( spent about £50 ) and then walked out the shop and dumped the bags next to him. Guy burst into tears, he was sooooo appreciative. Shame. Haven't seen him in years now. Wonder how he's doing..

But yeah, those random acts of kindness ( no matter how small or trivial they may seem to us ) can do a lot more than just that single act of helping someone. It may help trigger change in them - to try get aspects of their life heading in a more positive direction, get some positive thoughts coming their way that may help them out of the shitty life situation that soooo many people find themselves in during those dark moments of life.

Anyway, thats my 2c worth. In essence, if you can afford it, and it gives that unfortunate person that meal they so desperately need, then do it. Karma doesn't forget acts like this.

Not wrong at all. That was very nice of you! Definitely some good karma points. If she ends up blowing it at the machines then it is what it is. She was going to do it regardless with or without your money. She is (possibly) an addict. And since you didn't make her into one, you did nothing wrong. You were helping out someone that needed it when you came up. Very legit if you ask me.

I don't see what you could have done wrong. This proves that you have a really big heart. That money could have gone towards anything but the intention in your heart was set right. Once you gave her the 200 it then became her responsibility to spend that money. You have no control over it after a certain point, but you should not feel like you did anything wrong. In fact, that's an extremely generous thing that you did and I sort of got a smile on my face as I read through the thread! We all have such caring and kind TDSers.

Personally I think that was a lovely thing you done for that woman Miss Kitty.
Its not often you see or hear of random acts of kindness these days.
I think some good Karma will be heading in your direction for sure as you sound like a lovely person.

I think it was very nice of you tbh mate bravo, you've given her the opportunity to talk way. It's not your fault if she doesn't, be pleased you gave someone a helping hand :)

It's always good to do nice things for others and I'm sure it made her day.

A couple months ago I picked up a few grams of heroin and was sitting in the parking lot near a bus stop. This is one of my spots, so I know I occasionally get bothered by people knocking on my window and asking for bus money. A guy came up and asked to wash my windows for a dollar. I didn't have a lot of money with me, just $10, but I gave him the ten and told him not to bother washing the windows and to just relax til the bus comes. He kept thanking me and said God Bless you probably 20x... It made me happy to know I could help someone out and I didn't just blow it on an extra bit of dope.

Guess what?...I was justr at the dentist and who did i see?...The very same lady!!!She was in the waiting room when i got out of the procedure...She told me that she went to coles and got some food and bought her 10 year old daughter a present and topped up both their phones with credit!...

I am sooo glad she used it for good and didnt give it back to the pokies!..The receptionist was pretty amazed at the scene unfolding before her eyes...The lady jumped up and cuddled me and everything!! So i wanted to tell you guys that she did use it for good and she really did appreciate it!..She told me she was at the pokies that day in a last ditch effort to WIN money to pay bills..She said she dont play them often and she dosent have a gambling prob, she was just desperate and has no family to ask for help...Me either but im ok so...

She seemed a lovely lady and im super glad i gave it to her...I still have the rest in my undie drawer.Ive only spent about $500, including her $200....My so called "cunning kit"..Every woman should have a cunning kit!!!You just never know when you might need it...I was tempted earlier on in the week to get some gear, but that urge has gone a bit now...still in back of my mind a little though.....

Its a small small world foots!...It was good, We have exchanged numbers and i may have a friend out of this...Tho i am very wary of people...I currently dont have a single friend...:(...Oh well my choice!

I really wish i had sooo much money i could help anyone i wanted to!..That would just be the coolest thing ever..Walking around making peoples lives easier and better...Ummmm.my dream job!!
