So about two years ago I realized I had anxiety and my doc gave Zoloft which kinda helped. When I was in 4th grade I was diagnosed with ADD. 6 months ago I took adderall for the first time and it helped my anxiety for some reason. Can anyone tell me why that may happen to me?

There is an initial generalized euphoric effect from drugs like Adderall that seems to alleviate many troublesome feelings like anxiety and depression. These effects don't generally last long and in fact the anxiety may rebound. Tolerance is another issue and you may find yourself needing higher and higher doses. Try to do supplemental things like mindfulness, CBT, talk therapy to address your anxiety even if this drug is helping. Anxiety is not an emotion. It is the thoughts that habitually happen when you feel a genuine emotion like fear around other people. Understanding where this fear comes from and using rational thought to overcome it is something that will change your life with no side effects and no cost to your body at all. It takes practice and patience but the rewards are permanent.

Some of my anxiety (but not all) is based on forgetting things and not being able to finish stuff, which is all helped with ADD treatment. I'm more clear-headed and able to focus on things without worrying about the other things that I'm probably forgetting.
So that lessens my anxiety a bit.
Maybe it's something like that for you as well?

Understanding where the fear comes from...I hope I remember this the next time I feel anxious...I bet it'd distract me from my feelings (that sounds funny) at that moment...definitely an interesting thought.
