I hate to say it, but we're drug nerds

i mean think about, we're all over these bl message boards just like computer geeks talk about gaming. those of us who have been here a year or two probably know more than 97% of non-bluelight drug users

People I use with always refer to me as the drug encyclopedia, even though i know a lot less than a bunch of other bluelighters. they always ask for my input. "should i take this with this?" "will i be alright if I smoke this?" - its because Im perceived as a "drug nerd"

I know its wierd to think of nerds being drug users, but our fascination/lifestlye/knowledge is just like a nerd's, but the subject of interest isn't computers/math/science, its drugs

i guess its not a bad thing, but honestly, dont you think knowing that mdma stands for 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine or how the various neurotransmitters interact or that "eye-wiggles" is lay terminology for nystagmus is a little nerdy?
 
i dont have a problem with that...
specially now that i am kind of a "drug dr" to one of our local clubbing communities, so i kinda keep them from doing stupid things and redirect them to info. on their drugs of choice
 
everyone I know calls me to find out what their pills are or if they should mix shit, or what an acceptable dose is--i'm thinking of becoming a pharmacist, but i fear the temptation would be too much-that's whay i'm also considering chemistry-hey ya gotta love your work, i'd rather be a drug nerd than a whole lot of other things, i mean what if i were a trekkie?eeewww

Don't be a pharmacist. Talking to 80 year-olds about their blood pressure medication is surprisingly not as enjoyable as giving your buddies advice about the FUN kind of drugs.
 
Well, I'm a "science" geek all around, drugs come under chemistry - which i always hated - but now ive found a niche in chem that i actually like (away from all that physical chem :p).

But interestingly enough, when i first started getting into chems like speed, md, k, etc - i had a friend who used to show me what was happening (he had an organic chem degree). he wasnt a BLer btw, just a good friend who really knew his shit.

ps: i think using big people's words like 'nystagmus' make you a nerd ;)
 
Hey man, being a drug nerd is cool! I am generally a nerd, but I am pround of my drug nerdiness!!! I was called "dorm shaman" in a dorm i lived in because of my knowledge of drugs and plants and health.

and hey passion is the essence of life so being obsessed with drugs or music (both in my case) is just a sign of enjoying life.
Also its just a damn strange and interesting subject that bridges nearly all types of media and culture, so its something awesome to be obsessed with.
 
i definatly get shit for this all the time and ti's actually kinda annoying.

most other drug users do look at me like a nerd because I "know too much" about all these different drugs? How the fuck can you know too much about a chemical you're putting in your body that has such great effects.

I'm sitting here tryin to tell my brother about the dangers of this or that, and the chemical makeup and why what happens to you does, and he just looks at ME like I am the moron and says some stupid shit like "fuck that i don't care. i take pills to get fucked up i'll eat whatever" or some equally ignorant remark. Same shit from all his friends and all the people like them. I can't even count the number of times I've heard "yeah those heroin based pills" and i just don't even bother arguing anymore because no one ever listens.

My non drug using friends probably just think i'm a scumbag druggie for real. I don't really care to keep my use or passion for this shit hidden, and will bust out talk about drugs in any random conversation it could fit in. I hear shit like "i can tell you're really inteligent, but you're using it in the wrong way" and i just tell em to fuck off nicely because I'm using my brain in the way I see fit for it to be used and who cares if they agree."

you can NEVER know too much though for real. I'm way too interested in the functioning of the brain and how and why drugs do what they do.
