I hate the it gets better project. I've hated it sense I ever heard about it. My entire reason for hating it is embedded in the "mission" type thing at the top of their page
"Many LGBT youth can't picture what their lives might be like as openly gay adults. They can't imagine a future for themselves. So let's show them what our lives are like, let's show them what the future may hold in store for them."
It is entirely fatalistic, and does nothing but harm gay culture. It's the same type of fatalistic bullshit the feed all the kids in school that lead to that festering piece of shit Occupy.
Lets show them what the future holds in store for them, not, lets show them what we're doing to improve civil rights, not lets give them the tools to actively MAKE change in their communities. No, just "it gets better" not it gets good, it gets to a point where you're on equal standing with everyone. No, it just gets better.
We as humans shape society, it's our responsibility to actively campaign our own agendas.
the past three or four generations of Americans have been coddled and pruned to being the most socially un-aware group of little shits this country has seen since the 1800's. And especially within the queer community this rings true. I see all of my queer friends and acquaintances complaining quite a bit about our situation but few of them are doing jack shit to rectify it they sit back and play the victim but are unwilling to be their own hero's. So I believe The it gets better project is a blight on society and the queer community.
