Last night, I took some pills but didn't feel high enough, so I searched my grandparents' house until I found something I could get high off, and took one pill.
I feel kinda bad 'cause I took something that wasn't mine, and that's practically stealing.

They didn't notice, and I knew they wouldn't, and the thing of pills had been there for the past two months, so I don't think they'd been taking the amount per day they were meant to anyway, so they wouldn't miss one pill. And they're meant to take 2 pills a day, but there's 21 in the pack, so I just evened it out, really.

Anyway, if they'd suspected anything they would've said something to me. But I still feel kinda guilty. I'm trying to make myself not feel bad, but then I feel worse for not feeling bad when I should.

So, I hate myself. I'm clearly an awful person. That is all.

no, your not an awful person. I won't condone stealing, nevertheless, I don't think the pill will be missed. It might also be that the pill did more good by relieving your mental pain then it would of done for their physical pain. In which case, it can be argued you did no wrong....

I also loose more pills by accident than that and I bet they do too. You likely did not impact them whatsoever

Either way, at least person, rangrz thinks you are not an awful person at all.

If you were a bad person you wouldnt be feeling guilty about it. :) Youve clearly got a good heart luv <3
I'm sure youve learnt something from the episode.

This is exactly right!

Ethan, you did something you don't feel good about, and it made you feel guilty because you know it wasn't the right thing to do. Next time you have the idea to do something that is a bit unethical, remember how guilty it will make you feel and perhaps decide NOT to do it before you feel bad. If that makes sense?

aww, dont feel bad at all, you felt guilty so you know its bad and you have morals so just dont do it again. be glad you feel bad about it honestly. it means you have a heart!

Everyone makes mistakes and I agree with everyone else here. You are not a bad person you just had a moment of weakness. You are a good person for realizing your mistake, try not to beat yourself up over it.

I think most of us have been there at some point. The test will be if you can stop yourself from taking more now that you know that you can do it. Thats what always gets me in trouble I tend to take things all the way.

You're not a bad person because you felt guilty about it. If you were a bad person, would you have the heart to feel guilty? No.

Stealing pills is not a very nice thing to be doing, but I've done it as well and know it's not a good feeling afterwords. You just feel guilt, the high isn't even worth the guilt, and most of all you worry the next few days about being confronted about it. Hardly worth the high.

Took the words right out of my mouth. You aren't a bad person if your conscience doesn't give you that nudge. You have to ask yourself is this something you would do again? Hopefully your guilt will override that, you seem like a very good person, you just need to learn to grasp a hold of this addiction. You don't fail if you make a mistake. You fail if you never learn from it.

"Mistakes, obviously, show us what needs improving. Without mistakes, how would we know what we had to work on?".

What rubbish!

Enough with the pats-on-the-back. You stole from your own family! It's not "practically stealing," it's stealing! Stealing, whether you feel
bad about it or not, is wrong, and in a civilized society, against the law! It's even worse when you steal from you OWN FAMILY.

PROVE that you are a good person, one of good character and return the pills to your grandparents if you haven't already taken them. If you
have taken them, then you owe them and explanation and an apology. You'd better beg for their forgiveness.

Jeze, relax lady! He took one pill, big deal. And trying to replace one pill is the dumbest thing I have ever heard considering you would have to find a dealer and go through the hassle of it all for just one pill.

He learned his lesson, move on and dont do it again and it will be fine.

^ well HOLY SHIT MISSYKINS! you are obviously perfect and would NEVER do something so depraved or inhuman...i think your taking the post a bit out of context miss high and mighty..i think he feels he made a mistake and is looking for some feed back from people that might be able to relate or give him some advice! For FUCKS SAKE! Now since your so black and white let me try to explain something; if this person is indeed an addict, or on his or her way to becoming an addict its extremely difficult to be around substances and NOT take them. Am i condoning stealing? NO..but i think when there are other factors involved; such as drug abuse/addiction/dependency people can end up doing things that aren't a reflection of their character but more of the issues they are struggling with...and NO ONE is giving anyone a "pat on the back" for stealing here...chill! They are "patting him on the back" for his acknowledgement and concern regarding what he did...and he deserves a pat on the back for wanting some advice!!! And "you better beg for their forgiveness?" please...just stop...Ive been thru some shit and done some bad shit and come out the other side and the guy needs some advice- and he deserves a "PAT ON THE BACK" for asking for it!

I just re-read the post and YELLOW, you took ONE pill! if youve never done it before i guess i can see that it might make u upset but holy crap..its amazing how different peoples reference points are for everything..if if took ONE PILL i would be congratulating myself! hahaha....

I am slightly familiar with Missykins' situation; I don't think any of us are in a place to judge, and asking forgiveness over one pill? Really. See below.

Of course theft is wrong. How many people who have read this thread can place themselves on a moral high ground in this regard?

OP: don't beat yourself up over what happened. It would cause more pain to admit what you did to your grandparents. The best course of action is not to do it again. If you have an addiction, please address it with a medical professional.

The damage to the family would not be worth the admission. If someone came to me and told me they took a few Valiums (Rx, medical need) from my pill bottle, I'd explain to that person that I would not be OK without my necessary medication. For me, it is like a diabetic with insulin. I have no free passes.

Neither a moral high ground nor a blank slate is needed. OP, just don't do it again.

Stealing is wrong whether or not it is from a family member.

I don't think it's the end of the world. If you feel that you did something that bothers you now you will have a point of reference to make a decision in the future. Can't know how you'll feel after stealing a pill until you do so, eh? ;)

if telling about stealing the pill wouldnt cause his family tons of stress and worry and mistrust, i'd say maybe do it. like if u took a vicodin, say u were in pain and didnt want to bother them so u took one. would that be worse bc would that be lying or would that be a nice way of telling the truth and not having them worry.

i'd just try not to do it again. if u jones, buy it off the street, ask the person for it, but dont take it from someone who needs it, luckily ur grandparents didnt need it. and i agree with the majority here and the fact this causes pause shows u have a heart. assholes wouldnt think twice about it.

Well, my grandparents have told me since forever that I can have anything in their house that I want. I've taken books and food and stuff, and they don't mind. That would technically be stealing too, wouldn't it? But nobody cares. And I only took one. It'd be kinda impossible to give it back or replace it, especially since it's been like a week now. What should I do? Buy painkillers or something and leave the box here as some way of making up for it? I doubt they'd notice that, either.
I know that stealing a pill was wrong, but they didn't even notice. And I know they didn't, because they'd had said something to me or my mum if they did. They always say something about whatever they're suspicious about. They got suspicious once because I went to the bathroom after eating, and they gave me weird looks and told my mum, who then asked me about it. If they'd noticed anything, they'd have said something.

There's nothing to explain because they haven't noticed. They didn't even remark to themselves or me (out loud anyway, I don't know what they thought) "Hey, there's one less of this one particular pill. I wonder where it went."

I suppose that means it would be equally wrong to take bits out of the bottles of alcohol they have? (I haven't done that and probably won't, only thought about it)

Anyway, I'm not gonna do it again.
I'm of the opinion that something is only bad if it actually affects someone negatively. I'm also of the opinion that if someone doesn't even notice something at all, it can't be affecting them, can it?

I won't do it again, and I'm done feeling bad about it...

To everyone else: Thanks for the nice responses.
