im 24 and once more ive failed at college.

I have no qualifications other than gcses (10 a-c's) and then ive worked in various manually skilled jobs mainly in the building industry but I have no qualifications to my name.

Im the black sheep of the family and once again as they predicted ive fcuked things up and its really getting me down.

I just cant handle the fact im gonna be doing some sh1tty 9-5 job I hate for crap money, I literally feel like ending it all but have no one to speak to.

Don't be discouraged man. Think of it this way, some people can't find work. Others are having to go to different countries just to find work.

A lot of people would be happy to just work the 9 to 5.

Nonetheless, I am sorry that this has been a struggle for you. You can always PM me, I'm online a lot of the time.

I know exactly how you feel. I've fucked up college about 4 times and I'm only 21. I'm also the black sheep of the family. On my dads side I have no cousins but my grandma was a interpreter for a church for 40+ years and my grandpa WAS the pastor. On my moms side I have 20+ cousins, grandma does work at the church and my grandpa is a pastor as well! Nobody in my immediate family or even extended has ever smoked a cigarette or taken a sip of alcohol. All extremely religious.

So I know what its like man..Trust me..But you WILL get to a better place. Whenever I feel like life possibly couldn't get any worse I always remind myself "If I really am at an all time low, then I can only go up from here"

Yes, I agree working a shitty job is VERY frustrating. But just stick with it and try, try again..I know you can do it buddy!

i know people with 2 doctrines working a 9-5 in a field that has nothing to do with the schooling...stuff like this happens more than you think

had to answer to this one :)

I have a master degree in biotechnology and i work as a plumers assistant (making cement ,drilling blah blah )
from 7:00 to 16:00 my back is killing me and i'm not used to lifting weights.

Going to college didn't changed the fact i'm the black sheep of the family not even the fact i made my own family didn't changed it.

Don't get disappointed find what you like put goals and try hard to accomplish them .

Even then nothing will ensure your life will not be without a shitty job.

be happy to work at all man, i do get feeling down when you prove friends and family right that you messed up again but having a job is more then lots of people have. I messed up too, so I get that... however I spent the last 7months getting my shit back together just to have a chance to work, I only have one day right now but im so happy to have that. I would take a min paying job in a sec if I could. Be happy you don't have a felony holding you back, then you wouldn't even have a min paying job. Just keep trying. It took me 9 years to get my shit together but I finaly did. when you do get it right your parents and friends will be happy for you. Sooner or later you will do it you just can't give up.

9-5 FTW! You get weekends, and 5:00 is still early to get out and have a whole lotta hours to play xbox or hit the bong or go to the bar or spend time with your gf or family. It ain't so bad my man. Better than not working at all and making NO money.

Just put it this way. You work your 9-5 and while you're doing that you research for other opportunities.. think of it as like a challenging game. It's something cool you need to figure out.

Also, don't think of it as a you "have" to work 9 to 5. To me, the way you put this I Eat Pho; most people would be like YEAH you're right!!!

But me... normally (not using drugs) I would never make it to work often enough on time at 9 AM sharp, to hold the job down.

There are jobs which have different hours which can work around your schedule, whether it be your personal life schedule, sleep schedule, or other type of schedule ;)

I know of many stores where I live, that require 24/7 operation. They always love to get people for the graveyard shift (night time, in case you're not familiar with this term). I'm a better night person than I am an "early morning" person, so this kind of option would appeal to me (really any options not requiring early morning hours would be good for me). Everyone's different though, the best thing is that you have options when looking for a job.

If all else fails, you can start your own business (legitimate). If you have a large CD collection you really don't want anymore, it's possible to sell a good amount of them online. You might think "who would want these???" - what I'm finding, most of the time, people in foreign countries. Music releases sometimes typically have different "versions" which are sometimes the same CD, but the different version is for the different foreign country. A lot of music collectors (I am like this) love to have all the different versions of a release. I have personally sold some of my old CD's to people in continents like Europe, Asia, Oceania (region not a continent I guess ;)), even countries like Canada too. If you have a sizeable amount of CD's you don't want anymore, that's even better. In my experience, you may only sell 1 to 2 percent of your collection during any one month. Over time people get jobs, money, etc. There have been some music releases online I've been planning to buy from some individuals for quite some time. :)

This is just one or two ideas I had for you. I know sometimes making money today can seem so nerve-racking considering how hard it is to get legitimate employment, even considering that minimum wage, IMO, is not barely enough to sustain a reasonable lifestyle. I say this because so many jobs have cut back hours, so even with a legitimate job, paychecks may seem smaller than when you may have had a job in the past, etc.

^^ True true, I guess I was only seeing it from my view and the type of person that I am. The typical 9-5 rat race is certainly not for all people and personality types. I think what the cap't said makes the most sense.

Make it happen captain.

Am I really the first person to say that universities don't have age limits? Ok so you are 24 and failed at college. If the degree is that important to you...find a way to pay for school and finish your credits.

cheers for the reply guys some positive feedback dont really know what to say other thanks for your replys going to keep positive and hopefully things will get better.

Thats the spirit Bighoot! That's the attitude you need to get through it man, there are tough times all around and your young enough, you have plenty of time to right any wrongs you feel you've done, and I am not saying you have, because I don't see anywhere in your original comment that you have done anything wrong. Not everyone is academically strong but that by no means that you've failed. You just need to find the one thing you really enjoy, and maybe what you enjoy isn't offered in college, so maybe you just need to look else where. Back when I realized I hated school, I dropped out of High School when I was 17, (many regrets there, no prom, no graduation) but I left HS, went immediately and got my GED, then eventually went to a Technology School with a Diploma with Honors from there and got a job that I worked for 12 years in the technology industry, until I got sick and now can't work, but my point is, I was not very good academically until i found something I really liked was the Technology Field and then I excelled. So don't let this get you down my friend just find something that peaks your interest and then dive right in. But if your going to exceed at anything you need to keep up that positive attitude :) Best of luck!

I'm also 24 and have fucked up numerous semesters due to drug abuse and bipolar/depression. This is the first time in 2 years that I'm studying full-time. I'm massively conscious of the family that I come from. My aunt was recently president of the British College of Surgeons. Uncle is some hectic Rio Tinto Executive. Cousins all at Oxford. Then I'm here bombing out and ruining my life.

All I can say is that for the first time in years I feel like I'm heading in the right direction. I can't even explain how fucking suicidal I have been. But things get better as they say.

I still feel sick when I think about getting a 9-5. I see older people and think "fuck, I should just top myself now and spare myself the misery". I guess I can't solve that problem. Just have to keep at it.

Guys, you are NOT failing/fucking up your lives. You are finding your way with the mind/body/soul you came in with. That's different from the mind/body/soul of anyone else in your family. It's a lifelong process and everyone has to do it. The most seemingly successful people are dealing with their own levels of self-doubt. How many perfect looking marriages have you seen crumble? How many super-achieving students have you seen graduate only to discover that no one cares how well they did in school and they are completely rudderless? How many financially successful people have you seen that feel completely empty and disconnected from what they do?

There are so many ways to live. I'm 57. I've never had a 9-5 because I never wanted one--pure and simple. Don't waste your time or energy trying to either live up to a false construct/norm or in resenting it. The less we buy into it, the easier it gets for us and for all people. At the expense of sounding really, really trite (I'm glad this is an anonymous forum=D) the only true success is self-acceptance. Everything else falls into place around that and it is never static.

Yes, Suessmayr, keep at it<3 as long as you are defining what the it is!
