Whats up, four years ago I started smoking on a regular basis, and for a year I smoked all day everyday. I stopped a couple years ago because it started giving me real bad anxiety. I tried smoking last night and I hated it...I started talking to myself and couldn't control my thoughts. I use to relax when I smoke but I turn into a nervous wreck. I;ve read somewhere that people who smoke alot and trip on psychedelics(six month period I was tripping almost weekly) wil start to experience anxiety when they smoke. I'd like to smoke again, all my friends do and I miss how good music is on it. Any help would be appreciated.

Im the same man....I basically panic everytime I do it now. I took a year off and was good, I could smoke again (not like I used to) but after a couple months back on it, the anxiety started coming back.

It's a shame, but in time you will realise that its better to steer clear of something that makes you feel horrible, no matter how much you used to enjoy it.
Im still a bit sad about giving it up and I still force myself to smoke sometimes in the hope that I wont get panicky/anxious, and I can control it alot better than I could before the long break, but its still not the same.

I would suggest smoking less frequently, using it in a weaker fashion (joints or little pipes as opposed to buckets/big bongs) and doing smaller amounts when you do it. Have something sugary onhand, if anything just for the comfort/placebo that it will level you out (which i do find useful).

Of course, if it still makes you anxious, its time to say no. I know so many people in the same boat as you. I stupidly forced myself to smoke through the anxiety, which actually fucked my mental state up for a good while. Wouldnt recommend that.

Something similiar happened to me, I was a long time smoker then I had a panic attack when I was high. Now everytime I smoke weed I get horrible anxiety unless I take some lorazepam.

Benzos make it enjoyable again.

I can actually handle a smoke beautifully if im drunk....same goes for benzo's yeah...but when im drunk, I can smoke like I used to, buckets and bongs and buckets and bongs in a row and just love it. But I'll be damned if i have to drink everytime I want a smoke!

its all in your mind...go into thinking its gonna be straight...then when the feelings creep up just think like damn this is just pot...no one died from pot...and it doesnt make people freak out...it has helped me out alot of times...

Start meditating. It'll help you control your thoughts. It will take some time though to start enjoying it again so don't rush it and only smoke small amounts.

try some herbal remedies

i've taken a big liking to Lemon Balm tea and Valerian Root (as has my cat to valerian root as it has a similiar chemical to catnip) and i use to have bad anxiety
these herbs have mildly sedative effects on humans by agonising the GABA receptors supposedly

do exercise!!! heres always a good suggestion, i cant see why more people dont, so many benefits - exhaust yourself of your negative energy; go for a run, lift weights, ANYTHING that exhausts your body

maybe yoga? that can be quite releiving

try eating more carbs to protein - i read on nutritional page about how carbs make you feel more relaxed and proteins make you more alert

yeah perhaps stop taking psychedelics for a while; they can make your head a bit scattered and unfocused

Like everyone else said, just try it less often. Also, try to make a pick between psyches and Mary.

I've never felt anxiety, panic, or anything like that before. And I can smoke like 6 bong hits in a row then smoke like 5 pipe hits then like 15 blunt hits. I've never felt any side effects except for small urges.

Marijuanna brings out underlying mental conditions in a lot of people. Does your family have a history of anxiety/paranoia? Perhaps you should get an assessment done and possibly get an anxiolytic to help with that.

most people i know developed anxiety problems while high after smoking heavily for a few years. At first its awesome, and stays that way for a couple years, and then it starts to go bad.

Funnily enough, I got extremely high today and handled it very well indeed....it was euphoric and trippy but it never overwhelmed me. It was like when I first started smoking....I think this may be down to the fact I haven't smoked in 3 weeks.
I bet if I smoke tomorrow I would get panicky and overwhelmed.

Infrequency and confidence in your sober life is key to carrying it over to a positive high. If you are confident and content in sobriety, then in the higher realm of thought ('stoned') you will carry this into what seems a rewarding and positive high.
