I drank a 6 pack of beer and don't even feel buzzed.

I struggle with alcohol, a lot. I admit I'm an alcoholic. I'm also prescribed benzodiazepines, which don't do much for me anymore. I'm not sure what to do, because recently I've been getting withdrawal symptoms from alcohol (mainly, horrific anxiety).

I'm not sure what to do, as I'm dependent on benzos as well. I'd like to abstain, as my brain is basically mush, but tackling life's problems sober is almost as terrifying (used to be more terrifying until the negative effects of my alcoholism started to scare the shit out of me).

I'm 27,f,120 pounds about. I should be at least buzzed off a 6 pack. I'm actually still feeling anxious. It's scary.

The best way I found to curb the alcohol cravings is make sure you have other things around the house to drink. I was real bad with my drinking, where there were months that's all I drank was beer. I mean all day and night. But I binged for years, and combined with drugs. My liver's fucked because of it and that was the thing that scared me to sober up. I could drink 12 beers and wouldn't feel drunk at all, your tolerance is getting up there I'd say.

If I were you I would stick with just the benzos. If you want to drink, only keep one or two in the refrigerator. That's the one way I cut down and made myself drink water. The withdrawal is scary and real. You can't kick both at the same time. Either of these withdrawals can kill you. I'm not big on AA meetings but that might help you. If not, try and find ways to seriously cut down on the beer until you can quit.

It seems like every withdrawal period got harder over time (I'm 49) But I would kid myself and say "it's just light beer, hardly any alcohol right" Don't be like me man. Please try and help yourself now while you still have your wits about you. You're still pretty young too. I can't stress to you enough how dangerous alcohol can be.

what ive learned as a substance dependant guy, is that all these substances are just vices, if you want to drop one vice then you have to substitute with another vice. with alco w/d you take a benzo (xanax is the best) dose whenever you begin to withdraw and honestly alcohol is the worst to depend on so i'd just start smoking weed instead of drinking and take xanax when you withdraw

I was addicted to alcohol rather heavily both physically and mentally. I could not go a day without atleast a few beers or my nerves would be absolutely shot. That is unless i had a benzo to stop the withdrawal symptoms. I got full blown DT's pretty much when i would try to stop on my own and i never could make it past that shit and it's really dangerous to quit alcohol cold turkey anyway.

I would suggest using a benzo like Valium to get off the alcohol. I used Valium during the day time to keep my nerves from shattering and temazepam at night or if i was really bad in the day to chill me out and help me sleep. But using 2 benzos was pretty much overkill. Valium is the benzo that doctors seem to use here the most for alcohol withdrawal. It has a long half life, is more sedating for most people then say alprazolam, has great muscle relaxant qualities which comes in handy, has strong anti-convulsant properties and tends to be less addictive then short acting benzos.

I would not suggest trying to quit without the help of a doctor as alcohol withdrawals are just as dangerous as benzodiazepine or Barbiturate withdrawals.

Was it a 6 pack of O'Douls? That could be the problem.

Jut don't resort to slurping down hand santizer because it has alcohol in it (albeit the wrong kind)...because I have seen the results of someone doing this and it didn't turn out so well.

Oh and it was not a friend on mine, most (probably all) my friends are not that stupid.

The thing about Ethanol is; it's by far the worst drug for you in terms of how much damage it does to the body.

Ethanol is a potent solvent and while it's put into drinks, they also use it in literally every household cleaning product. Ethanol kills anything that's living and also has been shown to break down fibers. While Ethanol may be great as an antimicrobial, antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal agent - just because you're putting it into the body doesn't change the fact that it kills cells.

Another awful thing about Ethanol is the fact that it's metabolized into Acetaldehyde! Acetaldehyde; being just one atom away from Formaldehyde, is a solvent that is actually more corrosive and potent than Ethanol! Acetaldehyde is the sole reason you get a hangover. It literally poisons your body and that's why you feel ill the whole next day. White cells try to absorb and get rid of it while the liver and kidneys are filtering it out, but absorbing Acetaldehyde will actually kill the white cell, thus greatly lowering your immune system due to a lower white blood cell count.

Also, you know how your muscles ache the day after some large drinking? That's due to the fact that the Acetaldehyde actually induces hypercholesterolemia. Hypercholesterolemia is a condition where the muscle is unable to absorb or use cholesterol and as a result causes muscle cells to start dying. Acetaldehyde does this all around the body by the way, not just in the muscles. but I digress...

You need to get off the Alcohol. Replace your alcoholic drinks with something healthier. Water is always a good alternative, but it's boring. So try tea or juice or something. ANYTHING to get yourself off the booze.

If you're really worried about withdrawal issues, go to a doctor and tell them you're trying to quit drinking. They should have no problem giving you something like Valium (the benzodiazepine Diazepam) which works exactly the same way Ethanol does in the body. This means it will stop ALL withdrawal symptoms AND it's not even in the same universe in terms of damage it does to the body.

Also, keep in mind that using Valium to taper off of the Alcohol will make everything worlds easier for you. I know you said you don't like the benzo's, but you REALLY need to keep on them until you're off the Ethanol completely.

Anyways, I know what it's like to get off downers. It's just awful. But you can do it man! I've had to do it three time in my life already and while each time it sucked, in the end it was worth it....YOU are worth it! :)

it sounds like you could greatly benefit from seeing a doctor and being put on a long acting benzo to taper off of the booze and whatever benzo you are currently taking
