I don't want to be a soldier

They don't take tranny pervert junkie freaks in the army, so I think I'm safe.

Let's try embedding a YouTube vid:

Can you have more than one in a post? This was a "B-side" (remember records?) on the single:

I'm fully against war. So many people say 'violence isn't the answer'.

Sometimes violence is the only thing people understand. The muslim brotherhood havn't re-taken Egypt (yet) because they know the army will crush them. If they wern't frightened of the violence that would be inflicted on them they'd be back in power by now.Thank God..or Allah. I'm not sure how much good reasoned debate would be faced with a raving army of sandal-wearing blokes with beards who have whipped themselves into a frenzy.

WE know it's not possible. We know that starting work 2 hours earlier will help enormously, and , errr, customers (I know they not important to RM) will be happier getting their post a couple of hours earlier, before they go to work even. like in the GOOD OLD DAYS.

Again the army boys, I can't believe they didn;'t have radios, or were they too unwillling to use them for help given the mentality in the forces?

I do my bit mm, I let the posties leave a bag in my shed for them to pick up during their round.

War is necessary sometimes. I don't see myself signing up anytime soon though. The state of the world and war is so complex historically and politically that my death would mean absolutely sweet fuck all. I enjoy life thanks very much. There are no pearly gates, no virgins waiting in heaven.
My brother is going to fight for the uk. He is worried about violence from dissident republican scumbags (IRA off shoots). I think it's far more likely he will be killed by some 14 year old brain washed Arab. :| idiot.

I used to look down on soldiers but now I think it may just be simple economics. If you look at the history of the rise of fascist states, and especially democracies that begin to decline, the unemployment rate has an inverse relationship to the number of people signing up to work for the government. They join as law enforcement, soldiers, or bureaucrats. Either way, collapsing economies entice more people to work for big brother. More laws start getting created, and more wars fought, all to keep those people employed and turned on other enemies instead of becoming enemies of the State themselves. The devil makes work of idle hands, so better to sign those people up for service than leave them listless in civilian life where they could turn their interests to crime or insurrection.

I think that, plus the huge propaganda machine of hollywood, the media, and stories of glory, entices a lot of young ignorant people to join. Unless you're getting specific training that you'd never dream of getting in the civilian world, it's pretty much a contract with the devil. Infrantry? Who does that??

Like someone else said, I wouldn't join the army, because I'm not fighting some other cunt's battle for them. They should face the other person, face to face, and fight it out, if they have beef. What problem is it of ours? On the other hand, it should never reach the point where people should have to murder others. I'm fully against war. So many people say 'violence isn't the answer'. They should adhere to that more. I'm shocked that such a 'civilised' society should even have to resort to guns and murder. If people stopped wanting to hurt other people (let's face it, signing up for the army means that you want to shoot some 'Pakis', in a lot of cases), it'd be far better. This country is always willing to kill some foreigners. Why? If I killed some stranger, it'd fucking destroy me.

Hey treacle hows it going? Your posts always send me into deep thought, probably because you touch on so many issues in such a short space.

Your first line reminds me of the old addige "A rich mans war, a poor mans fight". To the best of my knowledge neither Bush, Chaney or Blair suffered any direct negative costs the their own health or that of their kin. An extension of this is the fascinating truth that neither Bush or Clinton ever actualy fought in the vietnam war, unlike Gore and Kerry who both served on the frontlines and had real life bullets shot at their heads.

The main thing that is going through my mind is hobbes and his political philosophy. He felt very strongly that man was forever caught in a kind of "prisoners dilemma". Say all the countries in the world set up a date and decide to disarm at once. How can any of them really be sure that all or even any of the other nation states will actually keep their word. A sort of backwards example of this is when hitler switched on his hitherto allie stalin, an initiative that was pure insanity even by hitlers standards. The key issue is trust. Stalin payed a price for trusting a rival super power. Its a crap example but what the hell.

The fact that any one of us would go to jail in this country for murder of a fellow citizen is a classic example of hobbes' leviathon. The central government and its police force help minimize violence within the uk due to the punishments it dishes out - ie. prison. The leviathon is a tried and tested method of minimising violence within a group or nation state. It breaks down ofcourse if enough members of that state decide they wanna up and leave. This generally leads to a civil war - with the american civil war of 1860 being as classic an example as you're likely to get. The challenge therefore is how to extend the leviathon beyond the boundaries of a single nation state. The E.U is kind of like a version of this in my opinion so I suppose there are the odd instances of progress to be found here and there every now and again.

A bit of RATM, conspicuous by its abscence so far.

I think that's the nicest comment I've had on here, and I've been here for over a fucking decade! I'll reply to this tomorrow. Top track, by the way! Was watching their 2010 gig, earlier, and reliving me watching them. Yes, I saw them, and it was fucking insane. ;)

I saw them at leeds festival a few years ago. Was raging like a trooper (if by raging you mean stomping around and screaming while off my tits on MD) Fuck the system!

(Mark Corrigan: And listen, while we're at it, there are systems for a reason in this world, economic stability, interest rates, growth. It's not all a conspiracy to keep you in little boxes, alright? It's only the miracle of consumer capitalism that means you're not lying in your own shit, dying at 43 with rotten teeth and a little pill with a chicken on it is not going to change that. Now come on, fuck off.)

:(

That sounds remarkably similar to something in Big Trip Travel Agency 6, I think. (searches her Partner-in-Crime's room for Russell comix) Bother, not there. Any other Pete Loveday fans care to check?

..... and yeah, sorry, I forgot, MailMonkey -- that's terrible. They did something similar (in kind, if not in degree) to me in a previous job -- expected me to do something using a tool that wasn't up to the job, then blamed me for breaking it. They were more concerned with Following Written Procedures and making reports to show how Written Procedures had been Followed, than whether or not their precious Written Procedures actually yielded the desired results. What they paid me was an absolute joke, if you think "Do I (a) catch the bus home, (b) walk home and eat or (c) walk home and have the fire lit?" is funny.

They got tucked right up on a dodgy software deal, though ..... Replaced an ancient but perfectly serviceable minicomputer using dumb terminals with a proprietary, Windows-based stock control system. Totally incompatible (so they reckoned -- I could probably have done it easily, if I'd known what I know now. I loves me a nice data format conversion challenge, me), had to take on temporary staff to re-enter everything manually from the old system into the new one, ran late, full of mistakes, some people had to spend the week-long Summer factory shutdown counting everything in the stores by hand, cost them a fortune and it never worked properly.

A postman in Lincoln has passed away this week while delivering post in the city.

The postman is believed to have passed away during the high temperatures Lincoln has been experiencing over the past week.

The man has been named locally as Graham Bennett (47) from Saxilby, who worked at the Lincoln depot for 29 years.

Royal Mail spokesman, Nick Martens, said: “Royal Mail confirms that one of our colleagues at the Lincoln Delivery Office died this week while out delivering the mail.

“Our thoughts are very much with his family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time.”
