Where your wrist meets your hand on the side of your pinky finger on both hands, there is a vein that rests almost directly on top of cartilage/bone tissue. It naturally swells to huge proportions when your arms are down, and is barely palpable when arms are raised. Since there is very little other tissue in the area and it's such a fat vein, it's an ideal spot for IV injection if you're already quite familiar with the technique.
This particular vein provides many advantages over other spots. First of all, you can practically inject in the dark. It's so bulky that you find it based on feel alone and there is no mistaking it for an artery or any other tissue. There is only a small length of vein on the wrist where it is accesible, however once you find it you will hit every time, and register every time as well. There is no leakage whatsoever, no irritation, and everything flows smoothly. There is also not very much pain in this part of the hand and if you are using a new needle, it should be virtually nonexistant.
Advantage 2 is that it is in a rather unremarkable, unseen location despite being very easy to access on your own. People are unlikely to notice marks as they aren't readily visible and even if they are, look like a cut from something else rather than a track mark. It is also very easy to rotate spots using the right wrist, then left, then right etc. all providing perfect hits and low chance of missing.
Finally, I've noticed that this particular spot is ideal for rapid onset. The rush is much better and faster than if I were to use a leg or foot vein. It also is not all that vascularized, so after injection there is minimal bleeding and therefore almost no clotting and swelling disrupting future hits. A small pat with a tissue and raising the arm two seconds is enough to completely heal, after which the vein becomes puffed up and ready for easy access once again.
