I didn't wait for withdrawl to start Suboxone

I have a question that has puzzled me since I went to the doctor and started Suboxone 2 weeks ago. Everywhere (even the suboxone website) it says to wait until you are in mild to moderate withdrawl to start suboxone. When I went to my appointment I told my doctor that I had snorted 2 oxycontin 80 mg pills right before my appointment. He said you should be fine to start the suboxone tonight. What???? I thought I had to be in withdrawl, he said that "they do not require their patients to go through detox and that I would be fine to start the Suboxone that night". I was very scared of precipitated withdrawl so I asked him TWO more times. Each time he assured me I would be fine starting it that soon. I even checked with the pharmacist and they said that is was probably because the pills only stay in you for about 4 hours........Well I took the suboxone that night before I was in any withdrawls and I WAS 100% FINE! WHY do all these websites say you have to wait and why didn't I have to? Any ideas?????

all you have to be sure of is that none of the oxycodone is still in your system. it's not about being in WD, it's about NOT having other opiates in your system, they say to be in WD because then they are SURE there is no other opiates in your system. so as long as the Oxycodone has ran it's course through your system your good to go on the bupe regardless of whether your WDing or not

It wasn't even out of your system! Maybe a myth?

I had to wait 48 hours before I could start.

When I 1st started sub years ago...I had medicated myself with hydro before my appt, so I wouldn't be a shaking, poopy-pants mess, especially b/c it was a long drive there and back. They actually dosed me (with a whole 8mg!) right there IN the office. I was also absolutely fine. HOWEVER, I have read about people going into PW's...maybe it depends on the person, the drugs they have taken, etc.

I know, it was almost too easy because I didn't have to have any of the withdrawl feelings. Did you tell the doctor that you had taken the hydro before you arrived? That is why I kept asking the doctor about starting it too soon.
