I Believe NAC has an effect

Wanted to chime in with my experience with NAC and it's relationship to MDMA. Like many of you, I've read the anecdotal reports and gave it a shot.

As always, there could be other factors at play here. The last 2 times I have rolled, they were separated each by about a year. The time off could certainly have played a large effect. Although I have never been an abuser, I did use to roll about every 3-4 months in the past, where recently it's been more like once a year.

With that said, I was a close follower of the "What's Wrong with MDMA...." thread over the last few years. Mainly because I had a few different batches saved up (I'm a saver/stasher for long periods of time) and they weren't doing what I though they should the last few times. I began to question the quality of the product.

Took 600mg NAC every morning on a empty stomach for about 3 months prior to last roll.

Come up was strong, then peaked as I would expect. One of my main complaints with the product over the last few years was that it seemed to drop off significantly at about the 3-3.5 hour mark, at which point I just wanted to go home. I found this roll (with the same product) to last longer and have a much smoother comedown. The kind of gradual decent that is ideal.

What I really noticed was the week after. Virtually no blues symptoms. Definitely still tired and run a bit ragged, but very little post roll depression. If you are a believe in the NAC theory, then this could possibly be due to the higher levels of glutathione, a potent antioxidant, I had stored up with the NAC regimen.

Nothing definitive here, but it was positive enough that I will continue the regimen moving forward for if and when I plan to roll. It is my hunch there is something to NAC when taken properly.

PS:............

mindset could have also been a factor. I do strongly believe that extreme familiarity with a substance such as MDMA when you have done it dozens and dozens of times can lead to an over estimation of it's positive effects. Meaning you come to expect that the drug is just going to launch you into a positive good time. Not necessarily true...set/setting, mindset, realistic expectations all still play a role. I really went into the last experience with the mindset that the drug is the launching pad, but the experience is truly created by me. In addition, I told myself "when it is over, it's over". Both of these could have helped lead to the positive experience as well.

Taking NAC the morning of the roll seems to anecdotally weaken the MDMA slightly.
Maybe the approach here is to dose NAC daily for weeks/months prior to your roll, but then don't take it the day before and day of the roll.

I don't know all that much about NAC. From the few things I have read, it appears to improve cerebral glucose metabolism in several brain regions, as well as offer powerful neural anti-inflammatory effects. This could possibly help to combat receptor down-regulation and improve receptor density, including 5-HT receptor groups. Although there's no conclusive studies to confirm this.

Edit: Possibly useful study - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24534112/

I agree. The reason I’m trying it is simply all the anecdotal reports out there.

The original poster was optimistic about this paper: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29116368/

However, the evidence is thin.

It seems like a safe thing to do, and if it does improve the experience, or produce a placebo effect that improves the experience, I’ll consider myself lucky.

I don't think so, I've abused MDMA at different states during the last decade and nope. I have access to excellent quality MDMA and it always is a magical experience as long as I take extended breaks without the aid of anything.
🆗👌
