I am seriously curious if eating poppy pods would manage pain

True as well!! In my experience warmer water is faster/easier.

Not looking to argue here, all are valid methods =D

Indeed.
I do think the OP is thoroughly underestimating the variables in making this dream a reality though.
If only it were that simple...

Yeah you have a point spacejunk. I actually considered the idea at some point as well, but after thinking it through I came to the conclusion that I'd need a lot more land than I could afford to have to make it work. I mean to have enough supplies for >200 days/year you need to grow quite a lot of poppies, no?

When i was an opium addict, ~300 pods might last me a few months, if i used with some restraint. By "a few", i mean 3 or 4 - from memory. It was a while ago, and glad to have that behind me.
If you take all the variables into account - likely success of germination, yield per plant, weather, mould/spoilage, tolerance, habituation, potency of strains vs their suitability for the region/soil type you are working with...you get some idea of why so few folk can self-medicate this way.
It was an interesting hobby, but I wouldn't advise going down this path without a solid back-up plan, especially if it is a pain management issue you are hoping to deal with.
