It's official. All the dysphoria, twitching, and appetite fuckery of the past three months is coming to an end. I am never touching risperidone again.

I realize that some level of antipsychotic medication is needed for me to function, as one of my psychotic features is a heavy, pervasive, omnipresent lack of insight. Were it not for that lack of insight, I could live with everything that my mind throws at me. However, I am willing to take anything but risperidone. I would far sooner have psychosurgery than ever go near risperidone again.

I got an acquaintance who takes risperidone. I saw him yesterday and he was talking a lot of stuff about the meaning of life and was trying to read people's body signals. Where can I get some real insight here on bluelight as to how a person with psychosis thinks, feels and deals with life?

I'm tempted to go rambling off about my experiences, but I fear misrepresenting other people suffering with psychosis in different ways.

Apart from a short spell on Chlorpromazine (Thorazine) I have no experience with antipsychotics.

But I have worked my way through a good number of antidepressants and found the variation in the wanted and unwanted effects quite extraordinary and very specific to the individual.

What does your doctor suggest ? they should be ofering alternatives if you are not happy with current medication you need to tell them. Do you have someone that could go to the doctors with you, I've found that really useful in the past as I've tended to get quite anxious about the conversation.

Risperidone was really wrong to me too. The worst being the strange jittery insomnia : felt physically nervous while having the mind in the sleep mode. Worst type of insomnia ever

I'm currently on low dose of amisulpride, far better. Even 3 dose in one take haven't the detrimental effect 1 dose of risperidone had have.

ive been on resperidone for 6 years and never had any bad effects apart from being tired

I don't understand how you think a class of drugs that lower your intelligence will allow you to have insight. Are you misinterpreting the symptom "specific loss of insight" because that is completely different.

I hated resperidone as well, and I do still, now that I am on abilify, which works wonders. But I will warn you, the transition between the two is worse than being on resperidone. I hope you may find a good medication to help.
