Hyrocodone/ potassium guaiacolsulfonate?

I have a bottle of hydrocodone/potassium guaiacolsulfonate syrup that has been expired for eight years. Is the potassium guaiacolsulfonate still safe to take? How much potassium guaiacolsulfonate can I take at once?
