Misc Hypothetical question, if someone drank isopropyl 91%, would it produce drunkeness?

Some people think ISO has methanol in it. It's not. It will not kill you/make you go Blind the way methanol does.

What is the problem is, is that it still does other things to you. While it will fuck you up, it will not be pleasant.

Another problem is that often times they add more things to the alcohol to induce vomitting. This is to help someone puke it back up before they are able to drink enough of it to cause an issue.

A so so comparison is this: kinda like car grade vs food grade nitrous. Sure the car grade will get you high the same exact way but the extra shit in it is going to fuck your shit up.I guess the difference is that both in that case are identical chemically, whereas isopropyl and ethanol are a tad different (with different chemical effects).

Furthermore, there are several brands of 'rubbing alcohol' that do use ethanol , albeit with the same additives to induce vomiting. Just wanted to state that not all rubbing alcohol is isopropyl. Just the vast vast majority.

While ISO alcohol is always rubbing alcohol (at least at CVs, not a lab) not all running alcohol is isopropyl.

Man, I can vouch for the puking. I probably swallowed a half ounce of liquid, probably less actually. I was able to spit out the rest, but either way...

....Just the taste and fucked up sensation it left in my mouth made me yack. That's one thing I'll never forget. Just getting a whiff of it when someone's using it makes me want to puke.

I've heard multiple people tell stories of drinking rubbing alcohol, so it definitely is possible. Probably the most disturbing was hearing how the founder of the rehab that I was in at the time, drank an entire liter while going through alcohol withdrawal.

Isopropyl alcohol actually isn't THAT toxic, at least when compared to it's alcohol brother methanol(which will make your drunk ass permanently blind from only several ML's), it is however several times more toxic than "drinking alcohol" (ethanol), and by the time you just have a mild buzz from Isopropyl alcohol, you have damaged your body/liver as much as if you'd drunken 25+ounces of regular 80 proof ethanol based alcohol. (aka the amount that would have you passed the fuck out and probably puking on yourself if you don't have a high tolerance) And if you try to drink enough Isopropyl to get drunk, best case scenario you wind up in the hospital with your stomach pumped, worst case scenario you just die.

Anything above 10ml of isopropyl alcohol is considered quite toxic to the body, it just isn't worth it to try to get a buzz...

It is however a pretty good solvent in certain scenario's, so as long as you allow it to evaporate half decently from what ever substance you were cleaning/whatever the fuck else you were doing with it, you are not endangering yourself. It's not toxic from a couple of drops or anything.

once, in the throes of severe alcohol withdrawal, i drank two screwdrivers, each with a shot of 90%+ iso inside (so about 40mls in total, give or take)
i vomited blood that night. and it didn't even help the fucking withdrawal syndrome in the least, just nausea and heartburn that was/is unprecendented. and keep in mind, as a seasoned alcoholic, i'm really used to both.

well i had this extract and couldnt wait for the isopropyl to evaporate, so i diluted it with water and drank it after some reading into dosage and toxicology. might have been 20 ml, which actually gave me some kind of alcoholic buzz and an ugly hangover the next day. and what was really nasty, isopropyl gets partially metabolized into acetone, which awfully stinks out of every pore and surely isnt too healthy for kidneys or liver

Acetone is produced naturally in the body from degradation of fats, especially in those doing Atkins style keto diets, it's not as harmful as you would expect.
It has actually been safely used as a liquid for preparing very strong salvia tinctures.

I still wouldn't drink acetone, isopropanol, etc. It's a bad idea.

I realize the rubbing alcohol is very cheap, but so is vodka. One can purchase a 1/2 gallon for like 10 bucks. I don't understand why anyone would choose to drink rubbing alcohol or perfumes. Maybe accessability or something. Like if one is not of age of something. I just don't get it. I have heard of it. One time there was a treatment facility and the nurses had to make sure the kids didn't have access to alcohol prep pads because they would open them up and suck the alcohol out of them. The kids would drink anything! Nyquil (of course) and even gasoline. And those cans of spray air - kids suck on and a lot of times it kills them. It has something in it that freezes the lung tissue. Some kids are found dead with the straw still in their mouths, and their tounge and lips are actually frostbitten. It is just awful. When I was young, my friend was huffing pam. I tried it with her and oh man - it was instant high. A couple days later I was at home and I decided to try it myself. So I took Arid Extra Dry and sprayed it into a plastic bag and huffed it. Instantaniously it felt like and sounded like a freight train was going through my head. I remember running into the bathroom and trying to breathe and get it out of me. Luckily I didn't pass out and pass away. It left me pretty quickly and I never did anything like that again. Can you imagine all the crap that got into my lungs huffing Arid?

Yeah, I threw up blood on it too. I drank a shot or two of it one night while wasted, out of booze, and wanting to get drunker. It's nasty shit.

Maybe they mean when IVd?

You know talking about IV's - believe it or not when I have been in the hospital and got an IV, I feel a little rush from the alcohol that they swab the op-site and shoot the saline in. It is very brief - but I do feel it.

I have a question. What if you have hand sanitizer in your car and have just put some on and get stopped by the cops? They will smell the alcohol of course. In my state (especially my town) - cops can pull you over for whatever they want - for the tiniest infringement while driving. I never speed and I am exceptionally observant of everything driving related.

The "rush" you're feeling upon injection is unrelated to the application of topical rubbing alcohol. If you get alcohol in a cut, or other open wound, it burns. It is not pleasant at all. You are probably just feeling the needle enter your skin, or the cold saline entering your vein. Even just a transient decrease in blood pressure can make you "rush".

Ethanol based hand sanitizer, just like ethanol based mouthwash, could trigger a false positive for alcohol tests.

As for LD50s - Ethanol is about 9g/kg in rats, isopropanol is around 5g/kg. So i-PrOH is about twice as toxic.
