I have posted in here previously about having a panic attack/fit/seizure type thing at the end of a music festival on the comedown of mdma. After doing some research I believe that I had that attack because of hypoglycemia. I was fine throughout my whole roll but towards the end of it I got some bad anxiety and ended up convulsing and passing out. I had not eaten much that whole day and my family has a history of diabetes.

I want to roll this coming weekend at another music festival. I havent rolled since new years so its been around 8 months since I last took mdma. I plan on taking one molly capsule no earlier than 9 oclock (festival is from 3pm-2am). I would like some advice on what I should do to prepare myself. I plan on eating a big breakfast and lunch and sneak in a candy bar or 2 and force myself to eat one when I feel like I am coming down.

any other advice on things I can do to manage my blood/sugar levels on the comedown of mdma or anyone with any experience with mdma and hypoglycemia?

any help is greatly appreciated:)

you could avoid this all together, in one guaranteed way...

or, i would find a good Chromium Picolinate(sp) supplement, and/or some glucose chews for just in case, but keep them away from your candy hungry buddies, haha, you need those!!

besides that, eating complex carbs, poly fats, and maybe alcohol sugar if need be Ie "sugar free" Yorks or Almond Rochas are good for this... let me tell ya.

... but, as you may know having diabetes in the family, id have a glucose meter with me to know fror damn sure that i was actually Hypo, and not Hyper or playing around with Ketones etc. although, this does sound like Hypoglycemia if it were to be all due to a blood glucose reaction.

just say know, it really shouldnt be cliche to keep doing so...

Panic hit it on the head. I have hypoglycemia, albeit it's not severe. I've always been fine with MDMA, I just make sure I'm on top of my water, vitamin, and sugar intake

My boyfriend is diabetic - insulin dependent. I'm gona get him to log on in with my account in a couple of hours to advise you. I'm not sure how he does it but he manages quite well avoiding hypo's while taking pills / MDMA. Also - you say there's a history of diabetes in your family but afaik you wouldn't be getting hypo's unless you were actually on insulin so I would absolutely be looking into other reasons why you would have a hypo. In fact I can't think of any reason other than having not eaten for a few days. Anyway I'll get my bf to log on to tell you how he manages, whenever he decides to wake :-)

Great information thanks! Im going to go to my local vitamin store and pick up some of that chromium picolinate tommorow. I'm not very knowledgable on what to eat for the complex carbs, poly fats, etc. so any chance you can post specific foods to eat for breakfast and lunch? thank you very much

If you aren't diabetic or prediabetic it's because of low cortisol. Cortisol increases blood sugar. the end

i'm hypoglycemic, and really the most important thing is to keep your protein and carb levels up. best way to do that is cheese and crackers. or a small sammich. i usually have some fruit cut into bite-sized pieces along with bits of cheese stashed in the fridge, and i snack on those while i'm rolling. it's enough to keep my blood sugar in check without being so much that i can't eat any of it. i'd avoid alcohol or candies, as they will just bring your sugar up too high, and cause you to crash.

interesting. I have a doctors appointment for a regular check up next week. however, it will be after the event so is there anything i can do to prevent what happened in my original post? thanks

Ugh do not expect chromium to save you from low blood sugar!!! Forget the chromium idea please.

And recognize doing MDMA oral with a FULL stomach WILL KILL THE EFFECTS. Ideally you want to have not eaten for at least a few hours before a trip so food in your stomach doesn't kill drug absorption. I have experienced this first hand, only once (had dinner then MDMA <1 hour later) and I never did it again.

Also recognize that eating too much can overstimulate your body's release of insulin, thereby instigating hypoglycemia in and of itself! This is assuming you have a real problem anyways, which I do not believe you do because if you did it would have come up in your life when you were sober by now.

BUT, that is not to say one day of drug use and exhaustion could not have caused a single acute hypoglycemic event if you were pushing your body far beyond what it is used to that night.

If you really want to be anal about it, you can buy a travel-size glucose meter (One touch ultra mini) for about 20$ at a drug store and it will come with 10 strips so you can do 10 tests, and you can buy more strips without a prescription if you need more. Then you can check your sugar whenever you want. If it goes below 80 you need to eat something. It doesn't have to be the world either.

OR just make sure you are having some glucose before and during the trip. It sounds to me like you just exhausted yourself and were malnourished. Really since most people don't like to eat on psychedelics, I'd just suggest sipping on gatorade or something similar with some sugar in it; whatever you can get at the event (NOT alcohol). If you start to feel "symptoms" again, you can always drink more. Liquid is better than solid food anyways because it absorbs faster. And don't wait, if you notice or think you notice anything get your drink ASAP.

As a rule of thumb, if you truly have a problem with hypoglycemia and its not all in your head then you want to ingest 20 carbohydrates at minimum to get yourself right. A can of regular soda is usually around 50 carbs so one can is more than sufficient, but if you are prone to hypo for real, just remember to have backup sugar ready in case 20 is not enough. Any kind of festival lemonade or sugary drink is going to sit at least 50 if not 80 or 100 so these are all good options.

But I would have to guess if you haven't had problems sober, then your problem on the drug was something else. Probably all in your head or simple exhaustion/malnourishment. Just prepare yourself well (all persons should prepare themselves nutritionally for the summer heat/drug use/festival combination regardless of medical status!) and try not to worry about it because this may make "something" happen again.
