hypoglycemia

wow there's a lot of familiar names in this thread. I think I'm somewhat hyperglycemic, have 98 fasting blood glucose, but I get pretty much same symptoms of dizziness when standing up quick and general lethargy.
i'm also pretty underweight for my heights.

I get hypoglycemic attacks sometimes and my doctor told me to cut down on carbs as a part of my regular diet. She also said that when I start to feel like my sugar is getting low that it's a good idea to keep some peanutbutter crackers on hand or cheese crackers or something like that. Those sort of things will raise your sugar and keep it stable more so than candy and other sugars.

Oh another important thing is to stay away from stimulants, tea coffee smokes etc. Before I knew what was wrong with me I used to drink 7-10 cups of strong tea a day, and I'd be fine right after I'd had a cuppa but pretty soon I'd get the shakes REAL bad so... more tea and maybe a slice of toast. I'd go on like that all day, not eating anything proper, just drinking loads of tea and occasionally some carby thing. Even now if I have a cup of coffee it'll set me off within an hour or so regardless of what I've eaten.

I'm hypoglycemic and usually deal with it fairly well just by having a healthy diet.
Anything low GI is the way to go, apples, bananas and pears are good. I eat soy and linseed bread, avoid white bread like the plague, it tastes like crap anyway.
I'll only ever chocolate or candy shortly after a decent meal when its not likely to have a great affect on my blood sugar levels.

I've never tried chromium before but I'm going to :)

I have this and it SUCKS so bad. There are times (certain situations, such as say, jury duty, for example) where you CANNOT leave to get something to eat, and you are not allowed to be sitting there snacking. Ive been in situations like this and gotten severely sick because of not being able to eat, and people dont get it. Its more than just "being hungry" I get nauseated, extremely dizzy, and then if I get past that part without fainting and still dont eat, I become very drowsy and disorientated. I can deal with it in most circumstances but I dread getting called to jury duty cuz I got real sick the last time and thoguht I would faint. :(

I think I might have this... does anyone else get anxiety and muscle spasms as well as feeling drowsy and disorientated from hypoglycemia?

Not really...my attacks usually go like this: start feeling a drowsy, off kinda feeling for a few minutes...which quickly leads to nausea...then if I let it go, dizziness...if I ignore it for much longer I become extremely fatigued and usually feel like Im gonna pass out.

I wanted to tell everyone, drinking spirulina shakes (green algae, which is a complete vegetarian protien, and FULL of vitamins and nutrients) has helped a LOT with my hypoglycemia. Im not a big breakfast person, so drinking a green shake in the morning really seems to help. The protien breaks down slowly and gives me so much energy in the morning, and seems to prevent me from getting on that up and down blood sugar rollercoaster.

I don't get muscle spasms, but I do get those other symptoms when I'm getting hypoglycemic.

Th best way to feel better is to eat some carbs to quickly raise your sugar and then add some protien to keep it stable.
