Does anyone have experience with hypnagogic hallucination?

Mine occurs right before sleep (obviously) and it's only auditory. I don't do recreational drugs. I'm prescribed buspirone 7.5mg x2, and clonazepam 1mg x2 or just x1 depending on how my anxiety is. Occasionally I'll take 1 mg Xanax.

obviously I'm not asking you guys to diagnose me, I just want to hear others experiences with this, if it's a precursor to mental illness etc. It's making me quite anxious :/

Yes, I've had sleep related hallucinatory experiences including hypnagogic hallucinations occasionally, since I was young and before I touched a single drug. These phenomena are harmless and aren't thought to be indicative of any kind of mental illness; although it should be noted that certain drugs can cause them to occur more frequently, e.g. benzodiazepines especially in withdrawal.

that helps to ease my mind a bit :) thank you for the link.

I had these from early childhood, and occasionally ones upon waking but they're not as interesting generally. No mental illness here, totally fine. I think it's incredibly common, most people just don't talk about it. Mine were always visual rather than auditory though.

I agree.:D

I've experienced hypnagogic and hypnopompic hallucinations; auditory, visual and tactile. I experience hypnagogic jerks very often. And occasionally I hear a loud bang as I'm drifting off to sleep, this is a type of auditory hypnagogic hallucination known as exploding head syndrome. I've had a few experiences with sleep paralysis involving terrifying hallucinations with entities and an overbearing sense of dread. Also I have lucid dreams sometimes.

All of these sleep related phenomena are fascinating to me and I'm lost for an explanation as to why people don't discuss them more often.
