Hypertension & blood pressure; drugs to treat. (Split from benzo thread)

As far as I know the simple answer is

diuretics
beta-blockers
ACE-inhibitors

Roughly in that order, if we're talking long term. Other cases; the above should give you a starting point for studying up.

Heh, I really should go to the doctors to get my anxiety and Blood pressure checked out. As well as my childhood Asthma + some other stuff.

So lame living in a small town. A dozen doctors (75% in training, 3 month rotatios) to a 9k pop. town and 19k shire :S

You have to ring at 8:30am every morning for 2 weeks straight just to get on a waiting list for an appointment in another month. I've been lucky in the past, my mum knows a lot of the nurses and medical staff through her work and she can usually get me in within a couple of weeks. Unless It's an emergency and then you have to go wait in the understaffed hospital emergency waiting room for 4-12 hours.

When you do eventually see a doctor they are mostly inexperienced, grossly overworked and under resourced.

Healthcare in Regional NSW (and regional Australia abroad) really is a fucking joke. Thanks right wing government :) But hey, at least it's still social healthcare!!

Back on topic, does high blood pressure always have noticable physical symptoms ie fast heart rate, dizziness, rushing etc ?

I don't have any symptoms that I've heard of from other, but I think I'll get my BP checked anyway (Doctors have always said it's been fine when I've had it checked, but haven't been in the bast 3-4 months.)

My anxiety has got much, much worse the last few months. I've been smoking a lot of weed (Indica - helps immensely) for my anxiety and to help me get to sleep.

Benzo's work fantastic.I only have to take 1-2mg Diazepam - low tolerance - and I'm set for ~24 hours. I really don't want to get too much of a toleranfce or a dependance to them though, so I'm not going to get any more (only had 3-4 a friend left in my room).

I'm very interested in herbal/ alternative medicines (at least the ones that work). I also know that excercise and fitness plays a huge part, which is something I haven't been great with since it warmed up. I better start making some phonecalls tomorrow morning haha

^ nothing you have posted actually indicates a bp issue. You do however mention a quite big anxiety problem. Are you sure you've ever had asthma?

Cause my gut suggest anxiety topped off with panic disorder.

Maybe I just want to see myself here, but I do know that sufferers of panic disorders often seek medical care for something other than pd (like tachycardia, palpitations, tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing, etc...)

Anyway, with no history of high blood pressure you'll have to show a high value at more than one point in time for anything to happen other than you getting to hear the lifestyle change recommendation; stop smoking, drink moderately, exercise, I doubt meth comes up but that's obv. a big no-no, and those are all good ideas. But you probably wont score any meds to help you with only one visit.

Heh, funny that you would say that.

I had an extremely severe panic attack a few years ago which required hospitilization. It was the scariest thing of my life, It was as if I forgot to breath for a few seconds and then just freaked out. I's the only major episode that I've had but I get small ones quite frequently.

I was diagnosed with childhood asthma when I was 6 years old. Had it pretty bad until I was around 11. It slowly dissapeared as I aged and was pretty much gone by the time I was 14 I was going well and my lung capacity was where it should be at.

To be honest I think lifestyle changes would be much better than meds in my situation. I'm not a big fan of Alcohol or amphetamines, and there is no MDMA round my parts so I just stick to Weed mostly. Couchlock doesn't do wonders for your motivation >.<

Come to think of it, I had a bit of scare last weekend. I was extremely high and got into a "play" fight with one of my good mates. Only lasted a minute or so but when I came out of it my head was beating like crazy and I could hear an extremely loud dulled thumping noise that sounded like it was coming from by lower skull. Freaked me out a bit, as my chest was also a little tight. Had to sit down and calm myself down.
