I have a condition where my body produces far too much insulin thus resulting in a constantly dropping blood sugar. I have to take an oral medication 4 times a day to keep my blood sugar at a stable level. I am going to a rave this weekend that my friend invited me to and I've been toying with the idea of trying MDMA. I've done some research but can't seem to make up my mind whether it'd be a good idea or not. I've heard that it naturally drops your blood sugar but I also heard that the reason for the blood sugar drop is because of all the activity and if I keep my blood tester and drink lots of sport drinks and eat well then I should be able to keep my blood sugar stablized. Are any of you able to shed some light on this subject? I figure as long as I stay away from the booze, bring plenty of food and sports drinks and check my blood sugar every so often, I should be fine. Right?

I'm not technically hypoglycemic, but I'm close - I have to be somewhat conscious about what and when I eat, or I'll crash and get really grumpy and lethargic. So while I have some sense of what you're talking about and how you feel, my condition isn't as serious, but I figured I'd throw in my two cents.

I haven't noticed MDMA having any noticeable effect on my blood sugar - in the sense that I don't get the low-blood-sugar-type crash I sometimes experience. Naturally, MDMA is a stimulant, so maybe this accounts for it. But when my blood sugar is low, drinking coffee will certainly not bring me back up (usually it will just crack me out and make me feel even worse). It's certainly better than alcohol in this respect. Drinking will certainly fuck with your insulin levels.

Plus, if you are the type of person who is in tune with what your body is telling you, being high on MDMA won't make you ignore your body and say "fuck it" and ignore any problems you might be having. In fact, in my experience it makes me even more conscious about making sure I'm not doing any (extra) damage to myself while out partying. Keep an eye on your levels, and I'm sure you'll be fine.

That said, any time you're out dancing for long periods of time - whether you're rolling, drunk, or sober - you'll need some fuel. So be sure to eat a good meal beforehand and make sure you'll be able to snack on something in case you start to drag.

I've found that oatmeal does an excellent job of keeping my blood sugar in the 100's. Maybe I'll just eat like 4-5 bowls of oatmeal through out the day before the rave as well as taking my meds.

Bring your glucometer with you and test yourself at times throughout the night. Bring your glucose gel (dextrose and water, over the counter) and don't hesitate to use it if you feel you need to up your blood sugar. Do not drink alcohol! It is my understand that sublingual glucose gel (half the tube) will bring up blood sugar 30 points in 15 minutes when delivered in the cheek or sublingual. Life savers and lollipops are also quick ways to up your blood glucose. Honey is also effective sublingually.

Sports drinks throughout the night are a perfect idea. Be safe and check your blood sugar. If you feel dizzy, confused, or nauseous... your glucose levels have probably plummeted and its time to take some action. Don't let it get to that point however.

Be safe!

Awesome. Thanks for those tips! I didn't even think of the glucose gel. Is that stuff long lasting or more of a last ditch effort? The thing I'm worried about is I have a very high tolerance for low blood sugar and don't know when I'm low. I've had a blood sugar of 40 and was perfectly functional, though quite a bit lethargic and slow. I've learned kind of what to look for but it still surprises me when I check my blood sugar and it's 60ish. Anyway, I'm going to play it super safe.

This. ^^

And wanted to add orange juice will get it up quick in addition to gatorade etc.

Glucose gel is short acting in that it will raise your blood sugar quickly. It will not continue to push glucose levels up after it is fully absorbed. Bring more than you need. Can't stress it enough, test test test your blood sugar. After you do this your first couple rolls and see how you react you can be more lenient... Don't use the "how do I feel" gauge because you will most likely feel great and not notice until too late.

edit: One thing I would like to mention that I did not is that it may be in your best interest to make sure to incorporate PLENTY of protein in your last meal before you roll. Protein helps stabilizes fluctuations in blood sugar.
