HI, New here.
I take approx 600mgs or so mg hydromorph tabs PO a month. Really over a period of approximately 10 days. This has been going on for a couple years. When I stop taking it, other than sleeping for 2 or so days and feeling depressed, that is it for withdrawl. I suspect I might be lucky there.
Is depression a common reaction? It is really annoying and hard to put up with.
(The only other drugs I take are zofran for nausea and benadryl for itching.)
Is there a drop in seratonin/dopamine levels coming off the opiate? After about 4-5 days I'm ok.

Nothing like using up your meds for chronic pain all at once, it sucks when it hurts and I've screwed myself. (I know I have a big problems since I can't stop taking them once I start.)

Yes of course you will feel depressed after an opiate binge. Your body creates more opiate receptors as a response to all the endorphins flooding your brain and when you get off, those empty receptors make you feel like hell. Opiates also release large amounts of dopamine and serotonin, so yes the dillies could deplete your serotonin and dopamine

Deoendancy and withdrawal is inevitable if you take opiates daily or every other day, there is nothing you can do about that besides increasing the amount of time between doses. Especially after a binge you will feel fucked and feel really depressed. It's comkon knowledge, what comes up must go down. Nothing in life is completely consequence free. Did you really expect to feel normal and happy after an opiate binge

Don't worry because there is nothing seriously wrong with you and you are going to live. One thing that will help is to stop goingol on binges. I think you know that you are in withdrawal and yoh know the answers, but you are in denial because you don't want it to be true. Wake up man...

Thanks for the reply. I've been happily naive and ignoring what I was doing to myself. I just never thought of depression as a withdrawl sympton. Again denial. "Wake up man" is very true and it's the first time I've spoken to this about anyone let alone on the internet. My doc keeps prescribing them but I take them when I dont' need them and then when I do I'm screwed.
For sure time to wake up... or at least try to. Although it's actually wake up girl!
Thanks again

Yeah what you're doing is on par with what heroin junkies do. They get the drug and use it all up, not to mention hydromorphone is possibly even more addicting than heroin itself. Withdrawals can be pretty bad but luckily you only use at 10 day clips. You might want to reevaluate your opiate usage and start seeing it as a problem that needs attention before it goes too far.

You may want to start a thread over in The Dark Side for moral support on your addiction and resulting depression. There are a ton of understanding helpful people over there as well. Just be sure to review their guidelines first.

Hope to hear you get things better under control.

Thanks for the advcie. I agree about having a problem.
I re-did my math of what I take and it's more like 600 mg in about 10 days.
There isnt' much euphoria, it's great with paincontrol but it's taken over my life. I appreciate hard core comments since this is hidden under the auspices of a real medical condition.
Thanks everyone for the good advice which I am scared to face.
