I had botched knee surgery 2 yrs ago which as left me with tremendous leg and foot pain.

I was taking the oxys for about a year but they really dont help much, I am in agony most of the time.

Today my PM doctor switched me to hydromorphcontin 9mg and 2 mg hydromorphone 2 to 3 times a day for break through. I wont get the perscriptions til the end of the week so dont know how things will work out yet. Still taking the oxy.

Can anybody tell me about this medication? Is it alot stronger than the oxys? I just want maximum pain relieve and am not able to achieve that. Pain runs my life and I am bed rideen. Its even to painful to sit on the couch. I am 29 yrs old.

Hydromorphone is a very potent opiate, the active drug in both your pills.(Brand name dilaudid)

Hydromorphcontin is extended release. Releases slowly thruout day, about 8-12 hours.

The 2mg pills are just instant release for your breakthru pain. Kick in quick, last 4 hours.

Hydromorphone is much more analgesic (about 17x) than oxycodone, milligram for milligram once it passes your brain blood barriier. However, due to it's low bioavailabilty, oral doses of hydromorphone are only about 2.5X more analgesic than oxycodone in pill form since much less actually reaches the brain.
They also produce more euphoria, but that's subjective. Others report that these make them less groggy than oxycodone, so try it and see how you like them. Most people prefer this to most any drug, so hopefully all goes well for you.
A 9mg pill should be comparable to a 20mg oxycodone ER in pain killing ability. And the 2mg IR should be comparable to a 5mg IR oxycodone.

It's effectiveness taken orally is much less than with other ROA, therefore, since the doses are designed for oral use, any attempt to circumvent the time release, or administer any way other than oral could cause severe respiratory depression.

Also, lock these up. Don't leave them out. Even if you live alone. And don't tell people, beyond people who need to know, you have em. Between a curious kid taking some and OD'ing or any random visiting cabinet raider who has a field day, you don't want anyone gettin ahold of these.
