I have been taking 30-50mg of hydrocodone a day for the past 4 mnths. A week I ran out of my prescription a few days early and started taking 2 MS contin 60mgs a day for 4 days. Once I was able to refill my norcos, it seems like they hardly do anything, even taking 3 at once it still feels like im going through WDs, massive headache, nausea, restlessness and such.

Is there not a good cross tolerance with the two drugs? Even after takin 3.5 norcos at once I still have a headache and feel sick. Then I took my last morphine today and I feel a whole lot better. Does hydrocone not work well for morphine withdrawals?

If you were taking 120mg of morphine then you'll need 120mg of hydrocodone for an equivalent dose.

Many people find that morphine is not that euphoric. Even if you aren't feeling euphoria from the morphine, its pain killing properties are still present. Opioid conversion charts are for analgesia, not euphoria. The morphine dose may be increasing your tolerance even though you are not feeling as much euphoria from it.

Thats definitely not true 120mg of hydro is much stronger then 120mg of oral morphine. Id say 120mg of morphine is more like 50-60 mgs of hydro. Thats from personal experience.

And to the poster im surprised you are in withdrawal because most people will agree that hydro is more potent oral the morphine.

Opioid conversion charts have oral doses of morphine and hydrocodone to be the equivalent.

I agree that hydrocodone feels a lot stronger than an equivalent dose of morphine. As I stated before, the conversion charts are for analgesic effects, and not euphoric effects.

I found morphine to be one of the most euphoric (I like the nod). It takes large quantities of hydro/oxy to make me nod. I agree that oral morphine isnt that strong, to me it seems that its about half as strong as hydro. Thats what puzzles me, is morphine just a more broad opiate in terms of effects? To me the 120mg/day felt like 6 norcos/day, but shot up my tolerance.

Thanks for the insight...

Yeah, your tolerance probably went up quite a bit. Just take barely enough HC to not withdrawal for a week or so, going always lower, and then see if your tolerance is back to a manageable level. You will have to take significant'y less than what you were on before (50mg) for a couple weeks if you want this to work.

I switched from MSContin(30-60mg/day) and Dilaudid(2-4mg 6X/day) recently to Vicodin(5mg-10mg 6-9X/day) as well. There's an "adjustment period". I'm starting my 4th day and two Vics works much better now. I think it's gonna take some time for it to work. Hopefully you got through the first few days. I still don't feel 100% by any means, but it's better. Keep up the faith. You'll get through it.

For my bday, I got a couple OP20s. Hopefully they will work out now.
