This may be a super silly question, but has anyone been perscribed the new hydrocodone mixture of 10mg hydro 300mg apap? I was just scripted this yesterday by my midwife for uncontrollable pain from carpal tunnel during pregnancy and I had no idea that they made it in this mix. I thought the lowest mix was 10-325. Are they making it in lower and lower mixtures? And this also may be a weird question but I know that some people swear by certain manufactureres (sp?)..like some companies make stronger medication (I know the logistics behind this are flawed..10 mg is 10mg is 10mg..but some people have subjective responses). Are these by any means different then other mixtures? Just curious. I went to fill my perscription yesterday and they told me I'd have to wait to pick it up till today because they had to order it.

There's no difference between the 10/325s and the 10/300s. The FDA has required a reducing in opiate/APAP combination drugs due to concerns over liver damage. Generics are the same as the name brand. Any difference between brands is a placebo, believe it or not.

There's no silly questions! :) (Personally) I'd rather someone ask a "silly" question and receive the correct/helpful information (and ultimately prevent/mitigate a potential negative/damaging situation) than go into things like this blind!

Believe it or not, concomitant use of opiate/non-opiate combinations does/can produce effective analgesia (via the synergism of both being analgesics! (And no it's not a Government conspiracy to stop one from obtaining opiate-based medications*).
I'd say, give this medication a good try and see how you go! If you truly believe you're not receiving adequate health-care, don't feel ashamed/intimidated in returning to your GP/physician/midwife (a regular one I hope :) ) and voice your concerns. There are always alternatives (pharmacological or otherwise).

Aspirin is generally not recommended during pregnancy (Class D) however have you looked at other NSAIDs/anti-inflammatory drug classes? Which may also help.

+1 for NeighborhoodThreat's post.

Thanks you two. I'm just overly curious about what I put into my body, especially with something growing inside. There's not a whole lot of options for pain relief while pregnant, asprin is out as well as anti inflammatory drugs. Apap and opiates are fairly safe. Luckily I only have three more months left, although those three months are in a very cold season where I live. The cold effects my wrist in a real bad way-it can get so bad that I can't lift a pillow due to the pain and stiffness. It's a total bummer, really. I've gone my whole pregnancy so far (7 months) without the need for painkillers (for the carpal tunnel, ganglion cyst and arthritis (sp?) in my wrist) but as winter comes along I fear the worst for my wrist. My midwife is okay prescribing me hydrocodone, as long as I don't use it on a daily basis. As for the difference in dosages, I haven't noticed anything really, but like I stated it's been months upon months since I've been in a pain management program. It is nice to know that there are lower dosages of apap out there for the mix as I not only have my liver to look after but the little one's as well. And I don't mind the mix of the two, I'd rather have the lowest dose possible for the longest amount of time possible. As of now I would need one in the morning if cold and two in the evening (due to food in the stomach I assume) but am trying to to only take it on extremely cold days. I fear as winter comes along, those days are going to be closer and closer together. Thank you again for taking the time to reply. :)

I don't take them every day. I was given 20 to last me two months so I don't think I'll have a baby in withdrawal. But thanks for the condescending advice Jay!

This it surely wasn't...

That was me advising you not to take them everyday...

You specified no duration.

You got advice with as much detail as you put down...
