i have been searcing bluelight and the net, but have not found the answer to my specific question.

a few Q's

say i am considering purchasing one or the other (hydro or soil grown) should there be any difference to my choice?

Q1) ie is hydro more potent than soil, is it reasonable that hydro will be more expensive because it is much more potent?

if its not more potent, is it more expensive for a reason? is it actually different?

i am not an experienced smoker, i only dabble occasionally, but enough to consider purchasing an [amount] (that will last me a fair few months, maybe 6? while sharing with friends)

Q2) is there any way of telling that the hydro i bought is actually hydo? apart from it might get me more fucked up? cos being a non-regular user, i would not be a good judge of this,

maybe a specific colour it has? smell? anything?

just want to know i am not getting ripped off.

now if i am paying 2.5 monetary units for my soil grown, and 3.5 units for my hydro, is that reasonable price for the hydro? (so hydro is 40% more expensive)

another way i would put it, would you rather 1.4 ounces or grams of soil, or 1 ounce or gram of hydro for the same price?

so 2 Q's ^^^

and basically, when i refer to soil, i mean like regular, maybe a B4 or something, its nice looking/smelling weed, just not really strong

the hydro i have not seen, so i cant say....

if they are both grown well and are both good plants, then there should not really be any major difference in the two weeds as far as potency and taste.

is one of them easier to grow well? as in is the likelyhood of getting strong hydro higher than getting strong soil?

another way to put it is: is hydro easier to grow well, so hydro is more likely to be stronger, because a lot of soil grown might be shit plants, because it does not grow as well?

hope that made sense, did it make sense?

nope. it really doesnt make any difference as long as either grower knows what they are doing.

ok basic big tip is for sure don't buy six months of weed at one time, it will degrade a lot and be a lot worse at the end no question. don't buy more than 1 month (2 at the absolute max) worth and keep it in a sealed glass jar and not in direct sunlight. if its a lot cheaper to buy the bulk for 6 months itll still end up not being worth it since itll be like half as strong at the end. if you HAVE to buy 6mos worth, like you are going to the moon, then buy the low end itll degrade somewhat less plus you know what you're getting.

Also never buy that much when you dont know if its any good or how good it is or how to tell if its any good when youre buying it. buy the smallest amount and compare and then come back.

the dude is right that 99% the grow medium doesnt mean shit to you it means shit to the grower.

that said some places seem to have a quality level called "hydro" and between that, the price difference and some guesses or assumptions you can make about the two operations the "hydro" is likely to be decently better. Guessing by how much is even dicier but for example kids in the us seem to pay about 2x more for "hydro" (generally low grade "high end") than "mids" (which may be a lot like your b4). It all depends on the actual weed in each case but i think most people find the "hydro" to be more enjoyable and thus worth it, though often the lower end will be a better basic value (like price per mgs of drugs in the plant) if thats all you care about.

Personally i'd buy a small amount of the higher end and see how good it is. you have a right to expect it to be better and bitch if it isnt and as long as you dont get ripped off i think youll be happier (just guessing)

what it looks and smells like also isnt based on the grow method, but you are really looking to buy better quality pot and even though what that might smell or look like varies a ton, in very general...

you should expect weed that is fluffier (it has been dried hanging upside down the whole time and not stacked a ton on top of each other that compresses it some), doesnt have stems beyond the bud, no seeds, almost all leaves on the bud cut off at the edge of it instead of encasing it, hopefully you can see some or a fair amount of white crystals around on the leaves on the bud and in around it and some kind of brighter colored tiny hairs/whisker things all over it. look at pictures of brands on the net it wont looks that severe but more like that. It can smell like a lot of different things but it should pretty much always smell decently or a ton stronger than your other shit.

tell him you just want to buy a bit and come back soon in a week or a day or an hour after you smoked it and compared since it will be hard for you to know.

oh and i didn't put this in the other post so as not to confuse the guy, but being totally pedantic you will find that in the very high end many long term professional growers feel that soil based is a bit better. Almost all the indoor commercial grow ops use hydroponics because it's a bit of a time saver which can add up, cleaner, and it can reduce occasional inconsistencies that can make a few individual plants in soil under perform because they ended up with a slightly screwed up mix or an uneven mix or even rarely problems with full watering.

That said I know a number of people who grow small amounts (often longer cycles too) of their exact same strains in hand loved soil right next to their full size mineral systems. Often have that as their personal at least partially, and make sure to point it out when it's getting smoked or offer it as gifts. I get soil grown trainwreck bubbleberry and blueberry once or twice a year and the hydro versions from the same room more often and i'd say yeah, there is something there, pretty subtle though, but it isn't about strength it's taste/smell like wine or some shit. I wouldn't pay more for it but i don't and it comes like its a favor so no reason to be a dick right. I think some of it comes from doing the hydro cycle grind year after year and wanting to feel more in touch with the growing process or just have it be different though.

Potencity is determined by the grower and genetics. Both are equally potent although hydro yields higher, but lacks taste compared to soil.

There is no difference in potency. Hydroponically grown marijuana tends to allow for better yields than soil indoors.

The way to tell hydroponically grown weed from soil grown weed (in my experience), is to look down one of the stems. The stem walls in hydro are much thinner (so the passage for nutrients is much larger) where as soil grown weed has a tiny ass hole in the stems.

Mad noobs be like "this is that hydro broo". Flat out-No! Hydro means a plant with its own genetics lets just say white widow was grown with water as opposed to soil. This will lead the plant to mature faster but not necessarily be more potent as far as genetic potential goes. Its still a white widow plant with a white widow high. If someone is calling their weed "hydro" for marketing and claiming its the strain's name and generally talking shit just run like hell cause its gonna be beast-er-ly.

pretty much. Saying "dro" or "hydro" is marketing for the most part.

Seeing you're in Melbourne, I'd suggest the bush bud over the hydro. Cleaner and tastes better. You're wasting money buying a 6 month stash, as someone else said, the quality will decrease over time. Buy about 2 months worth at the most and keep it in sealed cooler bags or a glass jar in the fridge if you can.
