Someone told me that hydro is really bad for you due to the chemicals involved in the growing process. I have little to no knowledge on the topic so any advice much appreciated!
 
All of the nutes and ferts are flushed out before harvest. Whoever told you that is misinformed.
 
The kinda hydro they were most likely talking about is known as beasters, or chemical drenched garbage, that tastes like as when smoked. The grower skips a few processes (such as flushing the nutes and fertilizer from the roots before harvesting) and the final product is very bad for you. The best way to tell if its properly grown bud is try to snap the stem on the bud, if it breaks easy its good stuff, if it bends don't buy that shit
 
Hydroponic growing is merely growing the plant through a medium of water vs. traditional soil. As mentioned, make sure your bud has been flushed for at least a good 2 weeks with fresh water, pick and enjoy!
