Hydro Deep Water Culture question

Hi, I'm not sure how this works but I figured someone probably does. Should the water/nutrients in a deep water culture system come up to the bottom of the net pots where the roots just dip in or higher like halfway up the net pots. I've heard start higher and go lower w/ time, but not sure if that's right.

Also, I see people using a plastic tub or an aquarium (10 gallon) w/ an airstone and air pump for their DWC system but it seems like the tub is so tall and takes so much water. I'm looking the have the net pots about a foot or half a foot closer the the ground. Would a plastic tub about half the height (maybe 10" tall) suffice if the net pots are only 5 inches deep? Height is definitely a concern in the setup, and a few inches lower for the tub will make a difference, but I wasn't sure if there was a reason for so much water or not.

Thanks for any replies!

in bubble buckets bottom; the point is for the bubbles/air stone to create a mist that will deliver nutes to the roots. DWC arent the plants suppose to float on the water?

The tub rant confused me so id recommend picking up some 5gal buckets with lids & make a bubble bucket.

I think the idea of having the water level above the bottom of the net pots is good, when the plants are young. Once roots dip below the net pots, I would have the water level maintained at an inch below the net pots.

Taller and bigger buckets are commonly used because more water means less maintenance. With a larger DWC bucket you need to add water less often, mix nutes less often and do fewer water checks.

There are some parts of your post I don't understand, but I will say that DWC needs an air stone and air pump to oxygenate the water.

Hope this helps :)
