Hi, in reading some archived posts, I am hoping for direction/help.

I have chronic pain and due to changing drug plans; cannot take Tramadol long acting anymore. The CP doc switched me to morphine long acting. And I am freaking depressed. My question is: Is there a way to get the same antidepressant effect with a 'regular' anti depressant? I've taken quite a few of them with increasing bad side effects like not sleeping for day (effexor) suicidal thoughts (citalpran) swelling and wierd skin sensations (paxil and related meds)
This morphine is damm depressing on top of regular depression GAH!!

Hows that for an intro??

OK, I will try :)

The antidepressant effect I felt with taking Tridural/Tramadol is what I am looking for. Is there a way to get that effect with an antidepressant and if so, what would that be?

hmm, Hypothecitically: Is there a way to re-create the Tridural/Tramacet antidepressant effect when not taking the aforementioned drug?

Not sure where I could start a thread about this and what forum...so I am going to look around some more.

Thanks Trick! I really like tramadol cause it took care of the pain without the high!

Unfortunately there's no way to get the same anti-depressant effect you were getting from tramadol by using SSRI drugs such as citalopram.

The unique thing about tramadol in it's depression relieving properties, is much like MDMA (ecstasy), it's a serotonin releasing agent. This means not only does it stop serotonin from being recycled like SSRI drugs, but it releases it as well. On top of that it's an opioid, which have anti-depressant properties of their own, and also stops nor-epinephrine from being recycled, a hormone that's responsible for regulating mood.

Hope this helps and welcome to bluelight.

Fresco, I did get quite a few of the newer drugs to try in the last 6 months and my brain and body sure doesn't like them

Hey Canuck, welcome to Bluelight!

I do have chronic pain and struggle with finding a medication that agrees with me. Hope you're able to find something that works for you soon.
