How Toxic Are Barbiturates For Your Body?

I am interested in the toxic side effects of barbiturates especially phenobarbital since its the longest lasting one. I know that opiates if pure cause the least damage to the organs, however benzos aren't that good either. Benzos cause both liver and kidney damage.

Barbiturates are more toxic (to the brain and various organs) than benzos, but probably not as toxic as alcohol. Still, not good to abuse regularly....

Bariturate toxitiy is a lot like alcohol toxicity in the mild sense, and less like benzo toxicity. In the servere sense, it's almost as bad as you can get - horrible CNS problems, GI tract problems, putting oneself at the risk of pulmonary complications such as aspiration pneumonia or pulmonary edema, risk of coma, etc. These drugs, if used habitually, are rough on the body. Benzos replaced them for a reason.

Anybody know how much xanax/other random benzo's one might have to take to get benzo toxicity?

I understand how dangerous they can be when withdraling from, but besides that I naively thought they were safe. How bad is it to finish a thirty day script in two to five days?

^ The dangers of taking a lot of benzos at once are usually due to junctions with other drugs, or injuries accepted during the "blackout." The LD50 for xanax (and other benzos) in mice is rediculously high, but it's really hard to speculate about humans. People on this board have taken like 150mg of xanax in a single bender and lived. There is a risk of a coma before death, though, but that's also said to be rather high. Again benzos alone, assuming no habit so as to risk WDing, are not that dangerous in larger doses. But still, not the best idea. Going through your script in that time isn't too bad, but I would not make a habit of it.

thought I don't know too much about this class of drugs, I remember hearing that drinking on barbs is more dangerous than drinking on xanax when one doesn't have much of a tolerance

If your taking barbs alone and not mixing them with opiates or drinking on them, I imagine you'd be ok as long as one weren't susceptible to dependency. This isn't to say barbs are safe, but that slight/moderate use probably wouldn't have irreparable damage to the brain of bodily functions.

^ You mean benzos in the last line, right? Cause you can get into trouble on barbs alone a lot quicker than benzos comparatively.

The CNS and respiratory depressant effects of barbs, when combined with alcohol, are much more prominent at lower (equivalent) doses, so they are more dangerous to drink on than benzos. Also, combining barbs with benzos should never be done, as barbs increase the binding affinity of the benzo binding site and will therefore lead to an exaggerated effect of benzos. And given that benzos have similar depressant effects, this could overlap-plus-more of effects is uniquely bad.
