My female friend has mono, symptoms have been light for about two weeks, she's on prednisone now for four days so far. Just tonight, tonsils swelled up pretty bad. She has to sing and act in a show: Are there any drugs we can obtain, by whatever means, that could suppress this type of flare-up? It is not the best option, but I am curious to know if there are substances like steroids that could really make a difference just temporarily.

Thank you, gentlemen and ladies.

OTC NSAIDs with actual anti-inflammatory properties (ibu, naproxen, NOT acetaminophen) might help. prednisone or stronger e.g. dexmethasone, etc. might also help. opiates can deal with the pain, if you can get some codeine syrup or pills in your locale without too much trouble. also, my girl tipped me off to this one, try drinking a cup of warm honey-lemon water... that'll give some temporary relief from even the nastiest throat ailments. that's about all i can think of for now. i had an infection like this a few years back and it knocked me out for a few weeks... felt like someone took a cheese grater to the inside of my throat. just suffered thru without any real comfort meds save for my girl's wonderful nursing support and even then it was pure hell. i would have hated to have taken that one on by myself. good luck.

Not sure if we can give advice like that, also not sure if you should take any advice from someone on the net. Just be careful and ask a professional.

I do appreciate your concern, but I ask this purely for educational purposes. I post here with the full understanding that any advice received should not be followed without professional consultation.

You have to see a medical professional to get the right diagnoses and follow up treatment.

Were not a bunch of doctors who can help you in this situation unfortunately.

^This.

The internet is no place to get a consultation. Please ask your friend to seek professional help.

Closed. PM me if you have any questions.
