How to stop stimulant inspired lock jaw?

Everytime I take an illicit stimulant (MDMA, Speed, Mephedrone etc) I get lock jaw, to the point of it actually being painful and sometimes carrying on to the next day :X

It's not caused by gurning as I very rarely clench/grind my teeth and notice almost straight away if I start to do it. It's more that for some reason, when I'm peaking, I hold my jaw at a slight angle to normal.

I've heard that Magnesium supplements are good for gurning, would it help me in my situation too? I tried chewing some gum one time and absolutely NEVER again!!! My jaw was aching for like a month after that night! As a little extra info, I have found mints temporarily help whilst I'm sucking on them but sometimes when your senses have been bumped up, you don't want to be tasting peppermint :D

i found when i used to do adderall, that drinking a lot of fluids helps.

i found that if i didnt have cotton mouth, then my jaw didnt hurt the next day

Using a magnesium salt that is absorbable and bioavailable (i.e. something other than Magnesium Oxide--that salt is just crapped out) helps a bunch for jaw tension caused by basic amphetaminergic agents, less so for psychedelics. Also, eating and maintaining a normal diet helps; the jaw tension tends to be far worse if you have low blood glucose.

The best way to absorb a supplement into your body is through the food you eat. Pills can help, but your diet is most important:

Green vegetables such as spinach are good sources of magnesium because the center of the chlorophyll molecule (which gives green vegetables their color) contains magnesium. Some legumes (beans and peas), nuts and seeds, and whole, unrefined grains are also good sources of magnesium [5]. Refined grains are generally low in magnesium [4-5]. When white flour is refined and processed, the magnesium-rich germ and bran are removed. Bread made from whole grain wheat flour provides more magnesium than bread made from white refined flour. Tap water can be a source of magnesium, but the amount varies according to the water supply. Water that naturally contains more minerals is described as "hard". "Hard" water contains more magnesium than "soft" water.

Chewing gum will always get rid of that weird tense lock jaw.

I never do a stimulant with out a pack of gum on hand.

Am I correct to say that one shouldn't supplement with magnesium plus calcium because the calcium negates the effect on muscle ion channels?
I'm still really curious as to why monoamine levels have such a big effect on that particular muscle...

Yeah, I think that's good. Eat some good veggies for a couple of days before the night to build up minerals as well as taking supplements would probably be a good thing to do. Well, it can't be bad to well anyway so yeah.

Nah, at the end of the night to calm me down and bring me back to earth but I don't think they've ever helped with the lock jaw. Although they are great to have in your tool box for comedowns. They really cushion it <3

I find that gum helps for a while but then seems to make it worse. Sucking mints helps a lot. I think sucking the mints helps put my jaw in line and stops it being at the angle it seems to go which gives me the lock jaw.

I never gurn properly but I do seem to chew like I have gum in my mouth with my jaw moving up and down and side to side which is when it kicks in. I really need to try and control that! :!

i normally just chew gum, haven't got lock jaw before, but it does hurt a bit the next day.

Lolly pops are good, like the mint but sweet tasting. Try that?

definitely chew gum, suck on ice cubes, eat some pretzels. The key is to keep something in your mouth so that it's busy doing something. If you can keep it busy doing something, you won't revert to grinding.
It gets pretty painful because of the muscles your jaw uses are not used to that repeated motion at that intensity so the next day, at least with me, it was total muscle soreness.

I've given highish doses of magnesium (600mg about 4 hours prior to stimulant use then another 600mg at the same time as ingestion) and a pack of mints to suck on during the duration, and have had extremely good results. The lock jaw was non-existent and at most, I had slight clicky jaw and a mild ache the day after.

I'm very happy with these results and will be sticking to a regime of healthy eating (increased fruit/veggies a couple of days prior to planned use) and the magnesium supplement with some mints to keep my mouth active without grinding or gurning.

Thank you for all the help everyone.
