I want to get into a good routine but am having a problem deciding what to do and when

I don't have a lot of equipment so it will kind of be a jail house workout but that is better than nothing to get in shape and help with my physical fitness before boot camp.

I want to incorporate the following into my routine:
-Running/walking
-Bench Press
-Push ups
-Sit ups

I don't have access to any other equipment besides a very shitty stationary bicycle. It is a POS and works half the time though, not sure if that would help at all

The route I usually take for running includes a downhill and uphill stretch. It is about 2-2.5 miles in length following the sidewalk. When I run i usually start with about a 10 minute walk and run as much as i can for the rest of the time but I am very out of shape and cannot run for the entire route.

What would you suggest as a good Routine to get in shape and get my energy and physical level to a good spot. I am 5 11' and about 130-140 lbs (I know I am VERY skinny).

I have at least 6 months before boot camp and don't want to get my ass kicked before I go. Please help me out with a weekly or daily routine to GET MY ASS IN GEAR!!!

Hey mambdylan, welcome to BL :)

You sound like you're already off to a great start with your workout routine. You can also check some of these currently open threads about workout routines, as well as this megathread. I'll leave this open for now as I'm getting ready to head off to bed for the night.... I will think about how to merge the many workout routine threads we currently have so they are easier to digest.

Until then, happy reading! :) And someone may be able to drop in and give you more specific advice until then as well.

Well I am wondering about a specific routine to meet my needs.

I have limited availability to equipment and am looking for a good routine for the list of things above

Pushups, Crunches, Pullups/Chinups, squats, lunges, dips.

3 sets of as many as you can do of the above will put you on the right track...after a while you can figure out preferences and where you need to use weight..eg with squats...

Yeah I feel you. The various other workout threads I linked you to are kinda like that too... like specific needs but none of them are really the same type of thing... It would be cool to make a way to share different kinds of workouts for different kinds of goals like that, so it's easier to find. There's a lot of people on this forum who are super knowledgeable in the subject. Some of whom will come piping in here shortly...

As far as working out without gym equipment, I am a big fan of it. I don't own any equipment. I don't buy a gym pass. The outdoors is your gym, you just gotta get creative. My philosophy on working out and training is a lot more freeform than others in this forum. I would say variety is key. Run or walk a different route every day, don't just keep repeating the same one. Or do it backwards. Bench press stuff in your apartment. Pushups can be done anywhere, obviously, but to up the challenge, try doing them supported on a ball if you can get one. Resistance bands are pretty cheap actually, if you have a few bucks to spend on this, and those can be used in a multitude of ways. You can check out either some parcours fitness trails in your area to use their hanging bars and incline benches or a children's playground :p Seriously. Use the monkey bars to do pullups or abs. One of my favorites is to find a set of outdoor stairs (such as the highway overpass, stadium, etc) and just run up and down doing sets of fast/slow. Find a park bench and do 'step aerobics' on it. You basically just climb up on it one leg at a time, and repeat, then alternate. Keep doing that for awhile and your glutes and thighs will burn. Don't have a jump rope? Don't buy one. Just make one!

Hopefully someone else can get a bit more specific for you, but my best advice is to keep it varied and constant. At least an hour each day of alternating cardio and strength training. Doing them both at the same time is even better.

I have tried to work out a structure in my life regarding this several times but I've always failed. Nowadays I at least try to take a small walk a day to get out a little bit, but it's hard when my apetite don't work properly... no energy.

Don't bother getting buff going into bootcamp, there will be time to do that once you're there. You should build up your stamina in this period instead, which will also make your body more ready to pack on bulk when the time comes. I swear by the Couch 2 5K method as a great way to build up your running stamina. If you run every day and just push yourself a WEEEEE bit further on each run, you will start making good progress after a week or so.

In terms of stamina-building exercises, core strength is also important. There's an awesome Youtube channel called BodyRock which shows a lot of wicked good exercises (most don't need any equipment) to destroy you. It's also easy on the eyes ;)
