How to make beans and rice taste better?

peanut butter, cock sauce and soy sauce......cook rice completely, then put two tablespoons of cooking oil ( anything but olive oil ) into a pan set to medium heat for every 1 cup of dry rice. Fry it until its crispy and put in the Peanut/cock/soy mix along with Ramen.

My favorites are chickpeas, lentils, split peas & regular peas (check out the protein content of good ol green peas)

Usually I make something reminiscent of dal. Learn how to blend spices and herbs and your food will be so much more interesting!

One thing you could also try is making soup or stew, then the sauce is built in!

If you're trying to be more healthy, don't eat a lot of dairy. Try to make your meals as colorful as possible - vegetables! All different kinds! Go to markets you've never been to and try something new.

Have you ever tried quinoa? It's a grain that you can eat like rice - I had some last night with salmon and peas.

One thing to think about is that your body will produce sufficient protein for itself IF you are eating enough calories from whole foods You know, food that has to be cut up, prepared, cooked somewhere other than a microwave...

Another vote for tofu from me. If you are letting it sit in a marinade make sure you squeeze out as much liquid as possible beforehand so the flavor can be absorbed. You can wrap it in paper towels/clean dish towels, then set a heavy book on top of it for a while to REALLY get it out. If you want to get a chewier texture, freeze the tofu, then let it that before you use it.

Quinoa ftw, except that there's nowhere to buy it in bulk here and am stuck with buying ridiculously expensive boxes of it if that's what I'm craving.

try parsley, lime juice, cayenne powder, avocado, cabbage, onion, chicken, steak, cooked tomato (I love chopping and covering mine on the stove with a splash of water, it makes the skins perfect), edamame, carrots, and zucchini. Just not all together :)

You can change the taste if you don't like the simple taste by adding some ingredients in that. Like chicken, meat or fish.. and you also can add some red chili or salt for better taste. If you find on google then you can see there are many recipes for which are make by these two things. good luck

Going to give you two recipes, rice(the kind you get at a tex mex taqueria) and healthy refried beans.

Rice

2 cups of long grain rice
1 large onion diced
3 good tomatoes diced
1 tbsp tomato paste
2 garlic cloves put through a press
4 cups chicken stock
4 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp cumin
salt to taste

Over a medium flame saute the onion and garlic in the olive oil until translucent, add the rice and cook it until lightly golden. Add the tomato paste and saute for a minute, make sure it's all mixed in. Add tomatoes and cumin and saute for a minute. Add chicken stock and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 20 mins. Turn off heat and fluff with a fork, let sit for 5 more minutes. So easy, unbelievably delicious and relatively healthy with only around 1/2 tbsp of olive oil per serving.

Beans

3 cups dry pinto beans
9 cups water (or chicken stock)
1 large onion cut in half
4 garlic cloves put through a press
1/4 tsp cumin
1/2 jalapeno diced with seeds and ribs removed OR 1/4 tsp of chipotle powder if you want a little bit of smokiness.
2 tsp black papper
1 tsp salt, more to taste if you wish.

Rinse beans off in a colander in the sink. Put all above ingredients everything in a slow cooker, put heat on high and come back in 5-6 hours. You can also cook it on low while you are at work, that will take around 8-9 hours. THAT'S IT!

When there's a particular ingredient I want to cook I usually google it and look for different recipes. Some things I've been doing with beans and rice lately:

Mexican - Saute onions for 6 mins, add fresh chopped chillies and a couple of tablespoons of ground cumin seed and cook for a few minutes. Add a couple of cans of kidney beans and a can of crushed tomatoes then let it simmer for about an hour or so. For the rice, you can either just cook it as per normal but for that authentic Mexican taste you can cook the raw rice in a dry pan until it starts to brown, then when you cook the rice add a couple of chopped tomatoes, a chopped onion, a few cloves of crushed garlic, a bell pepper, chopped corainder and a pinch of saffron.

India - Heat oil in a pan, add a teaspoon or two of mustard seeds until they start to pop, add an onion and saute, then add garlic saute for another minute or so, then add teaspoon each of cumin seed, fresh grated ginger and coriander seed. Add a couple of cans of beans, a can of tomatoes, maybe some water and let that gently simmer for an hour.

I love rice. <3.

Japanese rice seasoning called furikake (comes in many different flavors like salmon, egg, seaweed etc).
Salmon (sake) flakes (comes in a jar and just pour on rice)
Natto (fermented beans + shoyu and hot mustard)
Ochazuke (seasoning similar to furikake, add fish and/or seaweed, then pour hot water) - like rice soup?
Nori (seaweed). Flavored seaweed is always better! :P Korean seaweed is salty and Japanese seaweed is like teriyaki flavor (soy sauce and sugar).
Just fish and rice is always yummy (add shoyu). With salmon you can add mayonnaise too!
Onigiri is like a rice ball (put water and salt on your hands and form a ball, triangle, etc) wrapped in nori (furikake optional) with a fish or ume (plum) center.

Fried rice is always easy to make with leftovers. Little bit of oil and add meat, kamaboko (fish cakes), cabbage, egg, green onion, corn, pineapple, etc.
