So are u telling me i shouldnt do any drugs at all? Like not even weed or psychedelics? Ig I can understand why opiates would be a bad choice for me but not even other shit? And actually, im about to go to my psychiatrist for the first time in like 3 months today in about an hour.
You have already been identified as AT RISK for drug abuse/dependency. So the question isn't which drug can or can I not do, it should be what kind of life do you want? Do you want to have a family one day? A wife and children that love you? A career that you can count on to keep yourself financially stable? Because the statistics for people with bi-polar disorder are STAGGERING.
- About 56 percent of individuals with bipolar who participated in a national study had experienced drug or alcohol addiction during their lifetime.
- Approximately 46 percent of that group had abused alcohol or were addicted to alcohol.
- About 41 percent had abused drugs or were addicted to drugs.
- Alcohol is the most commonly abused substance among bipolar individuals.
If you are struggling with bipolar disorder and with a drug or alcohol problem, you may have a Dual Diagnosis of bipolar disorder and substance abuse. Having a Dual Diagnosis, or a co-occurring disorder, can make recovery more challenging. Bipolar individuals may experience periods of intense depression alternating with episodes of heightened activity and an exaggerated sense of self-importance. This emotional instability can interfere with your recovery program, making it difficult to comply with the guidelines of your treatment plan.
Dual Diagnosis rehabilitation programs are designed to meet the needs of clients who are faced with this complex psychiatric condition. Staffed by specially trained and credentialed mental health professionals and addiction specialists, these centers offer care that integrates the best treatment strategies for bipolar disorder with the most effective treatments for addiction.

If you can get stable on your bi-polar medication you have a chance of beating this. If you work with your psych about dealing with addiction, you may just be able to grow up without going through the hell many of us have. It may sound hypocritical for me to warn you about what can happen. But I did it, and I hate my life. I think about suicide often. If I could go back and do it all over again from where you are, I would in a heart beat! I would have flushed that fucking first hydrocodone down the fucking toilet. Now I am stuck with REAL pain issues and I can not take anything other than subutex for it, because odds are I will abuse the hell out of it. I am almost 30 years old, and this is my life. I am dependent on medication for the rest of my life.
You want to smoke pot? Take pills? Drink? (which BTW is the worst for bi-polar) you can, because life is about choices, and the choices you make while you are young will effect the person you become. I can't make you take my advice and I sure can't make you forget about how good it feels to be high, all I can do is warn you that especially in your case, it WILL lead to some very bad things. Don't end up like me kid...
