Misc How to deal with speaking to a large audience anxiety.

Just fucking do it. You don't need drugs.

Millions of people have given speeches just fine without drugs.

Will you be nervous? Fuck yea. But the farther you get into your talk the easier it becomes. After a few speeches it's no big deal.

Kava kava is great for stage fright because it relaxes you, relieves anxiety, and makes you focussed at the same time, and doesnt have the memory impairment and coordination loss of benzos and alcohol. With that you can drink alcohol with relative safety (don't dose two high with either as they are both CNS depressants).

Take 500mgs of kava root 30 minutes before you get onstage.

I've heard that a joke right at the beginning of a presentation really helps break the ice.

In case you didn't know, Erowid is a good starting point for drug research.

A couple of days ago I went to my appt but I had to see another GP because my regular one wasnt in (would have liked to have seen him as I get on really well with him and he understands me). Instead I get the head of the practice who must have been having an off day because he was quite abrupt and didnt really seem to be listening to me. I explained my situation and how 'friends' advised me on the use of a beta blocker and the possibility of me trying this to help me. It seems because I have no heart issues that they are not for me despite the fact that they can help anxiety issues. Instead without even really asking for my opinion he wrote me a prescription for a fortnights escitilopram! Contact them if any problems, come back in a few weeks etc. The bloke is a fucking idiot. I am not depressed. I have collected them from the chemists but im not going to take them (already have in the past), dont like the way they feel.

Im glad to see my taxpayers money is going to doctors that really listen to the patient.

^^anxiety is a huge mental health issue..it causes people to be housebound, not work etc etc...

For sure, thinking otherwise, imo is the thinking of someone who has never experienced anxiety at its worst. It can be just about one of the most foul things out there.

Hmm yeah suppose so then when you put it like that, although perhaps in a different category to the more stigmatised things. I find ways to cope in my life, I can work and look after myself reponsible and whilst I may be missing out on a lot of things im quite content with what Ive got in life.

^beta blockers work great at preventing blushing, hand tremors, voice cracking but they do nothing to curb sweating...

well I havent been into work since last friday (the day of the stupid clique party). im assuming ive been sacked. had my phone off most of the week.

oh well has given me time to catch up on the olympics.
