I wanted to get suggestions just to be sure what to do and how to do it with the smallest amount of withdrawal symptoms at all.

Basically I started Klonopin 4 years ago, I started with 1.5, then 1mg and I was at .5mg for amount a year and then for the past year - 6 months I have been taking .375mg Klonopin OR .250 mg Klonopin + 2.5 mg Diazepam.

I've read that 10% every week is the best way to do this? Or should I do it over a longer period of time?

Also, should I get off of the Valium completely first then the Clonazepam ? Or Clonazepam then Valium? I was thinking getting off the Clonazepam first while tapering then Valium because of the long half.

So in total I take .375 (in equiv to clonazepam) which is half a .5 mg Kpin in the morning + half a 5mg Valium .

What should I go down first to and how long ?

It would be much easier to just use one to taper with, most likely the valium would work best. That's what is most commonly used to detox benzo addicts in inpatient facilities. So, get on a dose of valium by itself, that stabilizes you, then start to taper.

As far as what taper schedule to use.. that's really up to you, as there are an infinite number of ways you could do it. To be on the safe side, as benzo withdrawal can be quite dangerous, you don't want to come off to fast. 10-25% a week maybe might be a good start. If you want to come off faster, then try taking larger drops, like 15% every 2-3 days or something, and see how your body handles it.

Everyone reacts differently to different taper schedules. Depending on your body, you handle the dosage drops differently.

Benzodiazepine tapers should be done under the supervision of a medical professional in my opinion. Your dosage seems low compared to others I have seen, so you might be okay with the 10% per week method, but it is still dangerous to do this by yourself...

If possible, I would call a 24/7 nurse hotline provided by many insurance companies or talk to your doctor about this. I believe that would definitely steer you in the right direction.

Good luck to you and I hope you get off the meds successfully!
