How should gender or sex be defined?

what i'm talking about for this is biological sex, not gender, btw. biological sex and gender are not the same thing.

That's the problem though.

When there are times ppl are needed to state what sex they are and here are the choices - make or female- usually that choice is needed at the time immediately and not with another person like on forms yo fill in or applications, what toilet to use, what department to buy clothes.

There is no room for "Well technically I was born with a penis and am underneath the exterior actually supposed to be a woman".

At times like that the same person would be better off filling in a doctors new patient chart as a man as he is still biologically Male.

a job description as transgender/male/female/rather kit say depending on what would suit the individual. Discrimination is fought best by just being yourself and not taking any shit for it.

Clothing, well the same person could be better off in the women's department for feminine style and being pretty, but also the men's department if their tastes are still masculine.

A lot of women are not into the pretty frilly girly shit either, men's clothes are great, easy, I wear mens clothes as I like to feel masculine at times.

Matches my chin hair.

Toilets: well theres this misconception that people who need the toilet especially in public toilets dont just go in there as they need to piss or number 2 and get out as quickly as possible.

It's not a social hangout, it's just a place to use a toilet.

So an outwardly Male in appearance transgender would probably aim for the womens, or force of upbringing go to the men's and feel like they shouldn't.

So either way, either you need to go and there is a toilet just use it.

It doesnt really occur to some that if there is a complaint from someone hanging around in there looking at you then it's that person who is the problem.

ANT: You're the one blending in sexual activity and gender/sex definitions.

I understand the historical context of what I posted, but in anime/manga for example, females are now the biggest bishonen fans.

So we can make this about pedophilia (your obsession) or we can make this about gender and biological sex as mirrored by fashion trends in Japan, like the moga, who were females who were considered unfeminine because they wore Western clothes. Like I posted about ffs.

From Article said:
The genderless males of today's Harajuku district are either unaware of -- or do not acknowledge -- their predecessors. Instead, as Ryuchell explains, the inspiration for genderless style encompasses three modes of fashion: androgynous Korean pop groups; "visual kei," a 1980s glam-rock genre featuring flamboyantly outfitted male performers; and the fashion of 1980s and 1990s America, which combined colorful clothing and accessories in unusual, eye-catching ways.

Why you stick to Greece and NAMBLA for those rants and not some freaky sex tourism article I posted highlighting the difference between gender and biological sex in another culture?

cduggles, I used to live in Tokyo. With all due respect, I don't think you have a good understanding of sexuality in Japan and how often children are abused. I'm not obsessed with paedophilia. I just don't see a significant link between bishonen and the Western transgender movement. It doesn't matter if men or women are fans of bishonen or shotacon, it's still wrong.

Japan has gotten a lot better, since I lived there. There is actually a feminist movement now, so I hear. (When I lived there, if you were female, you were extremely likely to be molested on the train.) It's a strange place and not somewhere that I personally use as true north for my moral compass... You brought up bishonen, which is essentially the practice of men grooming feminine looking males for sexual purposes.

You can't get a clear image of Japan until you go there and descend into the seedy underbelly. It is, often, a strange and disturbing place. The Japanese have all sorts of unusual attitudes towards sexuality. Children read comic books with pornography so graphic that it is illegal to sell in most countries. I don't think the existence of bishonen proves anything about the trans movement. If you'd like to explain how it does, I'm happy to listen.

Me either. ???

Again, I never equated the two movements and you have a very different viewpoint regarding Japan than I do. Let's not ponder why.

I'm familiar with bishonen as a term in the fashion industry specifically in Japan.

People here really have an issue with the third gender concept. Or should I say divorcing gender from sex.

The Japanese have an appreciation for androgynous beauty and a more fluid concept of gender, as reflected in the less restricted definition of bishonen. (The less restrictive term includes females.)

The concept of the appeal of androgyny dates back thousands of years :) in Japanese culture.

You brought it up as an example of a third gender, didn't you? ... "an appreciation of androgynous beauty" and "a more fluid concept of gender" is a strange way to describe child abuse.

so basically if bishonen means that i enjoy the beauty of lil boys that means i want to have sex with them.

just like i enjoy the beauty of men i want to have sex with them.

so when i fantasize about either of them and try to pleasure myself to either of them or have consensual sex with a man and can't get it up it means i need to get ED pills. cause obviously if i appreciate the beauty in boys/men but can't be sexually aroused i must have something wrong with me and i still am a true transgender, homosexual and/or pedophile.

thanks for clearing that up ANT.

your assuming i need to read about it.

your the only one who has brought up pedophilia.

you elude to it and also point out it's the only thing having to do with bishonen.

so just what are you saying ANT?

(or are you going to dodge this question too?)

Cream Gravy: most gay people I know wouldn't like your definition of what gay means. According to your definition a feminine lesbian being attracted to a masculine lesbian is heterosexual?

i think the same way Cream Gravy? does. matter of fact i live in an area that has a very high concentration of lesbians and quiet a few have said the same thing.

one of the most important thing when having a discussion is ensuring that everyone understands the meaning of the words being used, that they all share the same definitions. without that very basic thing, you end up talking past each other instead of to each other
Read the title of the thread.

oh i did. matter of fact after JessFR and tathra started posting i really was enlightened onto the title of the thread. very smart those two.

the only one here not seeming to work towards this end is you. you make a lot of accusations still, talk about some nasty stuff without coming to a new understanding and enjoy taking liberties.

that's what i thought ANT. this is the second time you have misquoted me. this time you try to defame me by saying i like lil boys when obviously it was a hypothetical.

how about you elude to something else without really saying much of anything at all.

personally i find the aesthetics of other men pleasing in a non sexual way. it's called life, everything has it's own aesthetic value. i don't need a dick in my mouth or between my wife's hairy legs to understand that human beings have this. i rather not act on impulse 24/7. it has allowed me intimacy with the women i have been with to degrees most don't know about because they are focused on lesser things (i have been most fortunate to be with those women as i can't lay claim to that statement purely on my own). being so cultured and traveled i wont assume you know about such things.

sex being a biological function and gender being the way someone self identifies is what it is. it's an experiment in this stage in evolution. they are accomplishing more than we can put into words right now cause we don't even know what the outcome is yet. making a mockery of sex and gender is debasing all of us. (though less whining about it would be nice)

how the soul comes into this is yet something else entirely different as it is intangible and not necessary to science, politics or laws.

I have no idea what you're on about buddy. You say you don't have to read about something to know whether or not it's paedophilia... I don't see how you could know what it is, if you admit you're not interested in find out... I didn't bring it up.

I'm not saying you like little boys. I'm pointing out that enjoying the beauty of the male form is not what I was talking about. If you refuse to look it up and you refuse to take my word for it, there's nothing much I can do about that. :\

Read the title of the thread.

oh i did.

Comment wasn't directed at you... tathra was saying it's important when discussing something to define things but the discussion is about how we should define things, so that doesn't really make sense.

i think the same way Cream Gravy? does. matter of fact i live in an area that has a very high concentration of lesbians and quiet a few have said the same thing.

Okay. Personally, I've never met a lesbian that refers to herself as a heterosexual. I think it's weird that gender as a social construct appears to define sexuality to a lot of people here more than genitals... I mean sexuality shouldn't be entirely be defined by genitals but I would have thought they're a pretty important factor, based on every conversation I've ever had with people of all ages and sexual persuasion.

your second assumption is that i need to look it up because i'm refusing to. again you put words in my mouth.

again you dodge a question.

again you look past what is being said and take it as you want.

again too many liberties.

again you don't seem to understand something is fluid and something is immutable.

and again and again and again...

same ol song and dance huh ant?!

which came first, the chicken or the egg?! what tathra has said is very relevant and good perspective for anyone.

As Japan actually has (or until recently at least) sexual censorship - Its a cultural thing, like school girl bloomers in vending machines

Is all of this that evil pedophilia you speak of? (Androgynous characters are very common in Anime, take f|~<ing Frieza as an example

I've seen Japanese porn, where people's nude bodies having vanilla sex, or like sex that's not a kink but just basic sex acts like oral sex, vaginal sex, etc. are completely censored which was odd? :? Yet I remember when disgusting Japanese porn that involved women putting eels in their ass or vagina and having sex with an octopus-basically a live version of what was once in popular hentai like la blue girl?-and a woman shitting and vomiting went viral online and friends would instant message me the links on chat programs.

women having sex with octopi is old, very old in japan. for anyone curious as to where tentacle hentai came from.

censoring of japanese live action porn has been confusing for a lot of people, even the animated stuff (hentai) gets censored with those blurry pixels.

this is from GQ but puts it in a nutshell of sorts (pic included in article is NSFW and is one of the few ancient art works i've seen several places on the net) also added is a link to wiki for general reference of lore.

But if you’ve ever watched a video produced by the country’s AV industry – and of course you have – you’d know that once the actors start getting down and dirty… well, let’s just say that the juiciest bits are pixelated.Genitalia in Japanese porn is seen only in 8-bit. While it may seem to some that blurring out an actor’s baby making bits defeats the purpose of pornography, it would be advisable to consider the existence of cultural differences which have further manifested at laws.

Japanese porn and the legal system

According to Article 175 of the Japanese Penal Code, it is illegal to share “indecent materials.” Though this may sound familiar to the rules closer to home, Japanese artistes of the adult variety have found a way to circumvent this: They simply blur out the genitalia. As amusing as it may sound to someone on the outside, appropriately placed digital mosaics are a big deal in Japan. Or at least, they have become so over the last few years.

I'm also not convinced that empathy is the way out here.
it's not intended to be a way out - just an invitation to consider the issue from another perspective.

i am learning that there is a correlation between political leaning and empathy and compassion.

The reason they went viral is because they weren't normal. They wouldn't be something to gawk at if they were as common as you make them seem.
