How serious should life be?

I find that if I take myself very seriously everything is going to seem more important and I'll feel like I'll need to accomplish certain things in order to be happy.

But how seriously should we take this whole thing?

If we don't take Life seriously I don't think we will have to wonder about which direction is the right direction or if we are doing this whole thing right. I don't think we will have to worry so much about our status in the society. I don't think we will have to even fear death since we don't take life that seriously anyways.

I mean just take a look at animals, how seriously are they taking this whole thing?

It seems humans take life to be something of great importance, and maybe it is, but just how serious should we be about it all? After all there is so much out there that we can't even fathom. Or do we already know it all?

we know nothing. the human species hasnt even been around that long. life shouldn't be taken too seriously, after all our lives comes to an end eventually. just as long as your happy then who gives a shit

life should be taken more seriously than most people think. the majority of society has an incredibly distorted set of priorities and values, working 60hrs a wk to get the biggest and best, while traits like honesty and loyalty take a backseat. but really, life's a fucking joke.

Taking life seriously or not seriously as a continuous habit are both potentially problems. Transition on how serious we take life likely is what keeps life meaningful, tolerable, and livable.

One of the hard things for me sometimes is accurately sensing someone else needs me to be outwardly more or less serious within a certain situation. Un-serious all the time or serious all the time would both burn me out. A consistent state is being stuck in my opinion. If job and social situations are causing one to be stuck its probably good to look for some other places where one can be frivolous or focused a little more freely.

I think most adults likely err on the side of focus and seriousness largely because it is required of us a lot.

I think it should be taken seriously insofar as it relates to actual survival and happiness(which is essential to survival, but the word may be misleading if you know what I'm trying to say), but not so seriously in terms of socioeconomic status.
It's a balance.

For me, when I take life seriously everything goes to shit. If youre too serious about it OCD kicks in. You want things to be perfect & go according to plan. Let lose, have fun. Our lives are just a blink in time. Enjoy your blink while you can. Dont waste time taking it seriously.

Like all things, there must be balance :).

Knowing where that balance lies is the hard part :\

Life shouldn't be so seriously mean, ugly, boring and ultimately deadly.

you should take life as seriously or lightly as you want. i think it is - and should be - defined by the individual for the individual.

^ agreed.

I take life as seriously as I need to in order to achieve and experience the things that I want to do with my life.

Serious enough that you respect life around you and protect your own life, but not too serious where you are not enjoying life. Its better to live one great day than a thousand miserable days.

In my experience, my life needs to be taken seriously. In the periods when I have stopped caring or making light of my existence, I have been inevitably reminded of the importance of seriousness. To me, seriousness means putting in serious effort to improve both yourself and your principles.
