How possible is it to get referred to rehab through the NHS?

Hi there. I've been going to a substance misuse clinic since November '12, and really need more help than outpatient. I'm struggling pretty bad with an addiction to benzos since May '12 plus a heroin addiction since last September and am in a shit suicidal place.
How do I convince them to be referred to go to rehab? I always fuck up and they know, Imthink they realise how much of a waste of time I am. I don't feel like I deserve it, but the selfishness in me would love inpatient help to get better. Sorry..

How have other people got referred to an inpatient rehab and how long did it take you?

Well, if you are so reckless you are endangering your life because of substance abuse, they can commit you... Funnily enough I was on hospital on Tuesday & I saw a guy who was off his nut saying he needed to get committed because he couldn't trust himself. He may well have had mental health problems too though, who knows.

Other than that though, I have no idea. I would suggest your first port of call is to bring it up with whoever is over seeing yourself.

I was supposed to get referred along to a substance misuse clinic as an outpatient like yourself; I was referred by my Psychiatrist but they never contacted me & I managed to resolve my addictive drug use by myself.

Tell your GP, they will set up a referall to drugs support agencies, or you may get offered a selection to choose from depending where you live. When you meet your 'drugs worker' or whoever you get assigned they will 'asses you' and you can tell them about your wish to go to rehab. I thinkits very expensive, unless you happen to be on benefits, in which case you may be able to get it for free, rather than £2,000 a month and upwards.

Thanks for your replies. I spoke to my key worker from the substance misuse today and broke down a lot :/. They don't think I'm worthy of treatment. I keep messing up getting my subutex script, not because I want to be on drugs or don't care. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I've got so much anxiety just leaving the house and spend the majority of my time in my bed, being stuck. My key worker just says "yeah" to everything I say in a distant voice. I'm not worthy of getting treatment it seems.

R u employed? Do u have a clean place to live, family, friends etc? Have or r u in trouble with the law?
If your answer to the first 2 is yes and then 3rd no then u will probably be somewhere to the bottom of the list. Due to my cousin having a job and support and staying out of trouble with the law it took him years to finally get a place in rehab and this was due to some sponsor grant. He was on a heroin for 10 years +
Hope u can get in quicker than him but there's lots out there that need a help and it can be a long process.

No, I lost my job and place at uni as I couldn't handle it and kept going to hospital. I live in a bad house and don't have any friends or family that I speak to or can. I haven't been in trouble with the law, but I'm going to have to resort to shit things to get by if I can't get on a script. Woah, I can't believe your cousin had to wait that long ferret. :(
I don't think I can handle it anymore.

Why has no one replied to this for so fucking long. Kace, I'm not sure if we've brushed paths properly but I definitely recognise your user name etc... Sounds to me like you need to swith your key worker, or who ever it was that was replying in a distant voice. I went through all this crap until i learned that you can call the shot's too. If you GP suck's never go to that one again, shop around. Same thing applies to all levels of publicly funded aid, you can request to see certain people and not to see others.

Sound's to me like you might have a genuine anxiety disorder. This resonates with me, because, while i've never been a clear cut anxiety case, nerves have overwhelmed me on so many occasions it my life. I used to be well into competitive sports, pre long term injury, and while the huge adrenaline build up occasionally worked in my favour, more often than not it spilled over too far and stifled my performance. I can particularly empathise with what you said about not leaving the house. When i quit all drugs about 8 months ago there was a period for several months where i genuinely struggled to communicate with those around me. Shall i go to the shops today, maybe, but if i do i might pass my next door neighbour and we might fall into small talk and i won't know what to say. Then i would put it off another couple of hours etc.. and another couple until it wouldn't get done. Then you're off schedule and they give you loads of shit for that. Don't stand for it, if they placed you with some dick head who just does the job for the money then suggest a change of personel. Don't think about just do it. Then you will feel a new confidence concerning what you have just accomplished in terms of re directing your life etc.. and maybe that can go somewhere. PM me anytime.

waiting lists for residential rehab are massive - you have a very slim chance of getting in unless you tick the right boxes, rather like getting a council house, I went to one in the 90's but that was paid for. May be worth while looking up all the private centres, Promis, clouds, priory etc and ask if they take in charitable cases - I know that when i was in Promis a few there wern't paying.

must be my area then but theres no problems acccessing this place as long as you jump through all the treatment hoops. NHS - im a new customer as well i only got referred 3 weeks ago and ive managed to land a decent opiate script with the promise of this rehab if i can detox
