How old were you when you came out of the closet? How did it go for you?

I was 19 when I came out to pretty much everybody. This was back in 1996 when society was much less accepting of LGBTs. It was pretty much disastrous, but a few friends did stick with me. After I told my parents, they politely asked me not to talk about it anymore. So anyway, that was almost 20 years ago, and I don't dare discuss it with them now, but I'm pretty sure they've found gay porn sites I look at on the computer.

What about you? How was your experience coming out of the closet?

i never felt like i need to be out of the closet my sex life is my own business and if someone finds out and has a problem with it they can fuck off lol i mean i could be openly bi but i feel like i would be limiting myself that way bcos from that point on i would be expected to behave a certain way and like certain ppl

i did however know i liked both men and women from a young age i used to play with and admire girls in the park as a toddler but i also remember riding the bus home and just staring at the bus driver i liked how he handled the clutch lol its weird thinking back but i alway sfelt attracted to both sexes and in the end i dont think its something to be ashamed of

i told my parents when i was 16. my dad has gay uncles and was expecting it, even though i'm pretty butch. i have a lot of issues with my family, but they were never anything but supportive on this. also to my friends in HS at that age, which was around 1988. i can out to the world in college in 1990. honestly, i've never face anything serious - a subboss tried to harass me once, but i taped him and took it to the boss. otherwise, nothing. i passed for straight in jail and prison and didn't talk about it, though once i was in the homo cells for a few days on another occasion.

It happened at different times for different people.

My mother always knew I am bisexual or not heterosexual so there was never really any need to "come out" to her.

I came out to friends and school at 14 or 15 and nobody believed me.

I came out to my dad and other relatives when I was in my mid 20s and in a relationship with a man for the first time.

I came out to mum at 16 and the first words she said were that she's known forever lol

Then I told my friends at 19 & they were OK with it at first but they're a bit funny now because I refuse to be discrete if they can happily make out graphically in front of me.

I'm straight, but I remember my friend being gay and telling me about it, when he was 16.
