How much will codeine abuse reduce the analgesic properties of morphine

Hi, I'm a regular user of codeine, I dose 450mg on a regular basis.

In the near future I'm going to have to go for a major operation and wondering how much is my codeine use going to affect the analgesic properties of the morphine I'm going to be on post op?

Straight up, you have a 45mg+ Morphine tolerance, depending on how much your body metabolizes Codeine.

They will give you low doses of opiates for your post-op pain because they will presume you are an opiate virgin. It probably will still dull the pain, but the thing is, it will not make you fall asleep, and if it's major surgery, this will be a problem.

My advice is to either 1) tell them that you have a habit and may need higher doses, or 2) QUIT right now, lower your tolerance and do not touch opiates until you get to use them legally for post-op pain. Also you may want to have some Codeine on hand, if your tolerance is still not low enough and the post-op meds do not cut it.

That is what I would do anyway, but you may risk OD; etc if you mix opiates without truly knowing your tolerance.

Goodluck.

Well they know I'm not opiate naive, I have had 14-15 major surgeries and have been on opiates and opioids under medical supervision for considerably long periods of time, last time I was in hospital I was being given 50mg oxycodone orally,400mg Demerol im, 200mg tramadol im daily...I've been on all sorts of pain killers prescribed by the people in question over the last 2 years I.e fentanyl, buprenorphine, morphine and generally a combination of different ones at the same time. I've been in hospital on opiates for so long that they put me on methadone leaving the hospital on 2 occasions, so they know I have an opiate tolerance to begin with and I plan on being clean from codeine at least 2 months prior to surgery, I'm just wondering is it absolutely necessary to tell them I've used opiates for recreational purposes because this might screw me when it comes to needing pain meds in the future... Codeine is the only opiate I've used recreationally and not under medical supervision

Sorry dude, I did not know about your situation and the many surgeries you have already had. I'd say fuck it, do not tell them and just quit until the surgery is over. But this is my advice as a junky. Sensible, safe and logical advice dictates that one must be 100% honest with their doctors and surgeons.

You will have to choose an option, there is one right one with consequences and one wrong one that may get you off scott free or have disastrous dire consequences that were unforseen.

Sorry man but that is my two cents...

you should know the answer to your own question then lol
U will always have some opiate tolerance after what u have had. Morph will kill ur pain, prob won't get u high if u take it as prescribed though. Something tells me you will never take it as prescribed though especially cause you have abused codeine for fun. Can become a real dangerous game to play, Trust me. You should tell the docs 100% truth. Unless you feel the real urge to have a good go on morph, which is wat I think your trying to justify to urself.

Well I won't be able to abuse the meds they give me post op because it will be under medical supervision, they won't be sending me home with any substantial opioids I'll prob be in the hospital for a week or 2 post surgery, I don't care about getting high when it comes to the surgery I just wanna be pain free, I have began my abstainence from opiates already and can't imagine that the operation will be till sometime next year. I mean like its not like I'm going in with 80 mg oxy a day habit with them assuming im opiate naive and not telling them
