How much oral morphine for a 20mg/day intranasal dilaudid habit?

This is just a quick question, and I'm hoping someone can help me out here with personal experience. I've looked through all the opiate conversion charts in the opiate conversion Megathread, but I get wildly different answers for each. Some tell me 20mg of hydromorphone oral = 80mg morphine, while others tell me it equals 160mg oral morphine.

My situation is that I came across a large amount of 8mg hydromorph pills. I've been doing about 20mg/day intranasally or orally for about 2 weeks now. I've run out of hydromorph, and all I'm left with is some 100mg morphine tablets and a 200mg morphine tablets. Has anyone made this switch before like this? And if you have, can you give me an estimate of how much oral morphine I should take to get me where 20mg of dilaudid oral/intranasal got me?

Should I just take the whole 200mg morphine tablet? Should I start w/ 100mg? I've never had oral morphine tablets before, but it's all I have now and I'm hoping to get something out of it even after the last few weeks of hydromorph abuse.

Back in the Day, I had 8mg script of Dilaudid taken 6 times a day and MS-COTIN 80mgs Twice a day... To be honest, it's going to be Hard Dilaudid in my experience is alot more powerful than morphine. To get a good high i would need at least 16mg of D at once.. and if i was out of D it would take 160-mg of Morphine to get me well..

20 a day is not very much... i would suggest trying 50 mg's of the morphine.. and increase as needed.

oral morphine has a pretty low BA... i would try 100mg.... and redose as needed

Morphine is only week when taken oraly. From wikipedia:

Hydromorphone bioavalibility: Oral: 30–35%, Intranasal: 52–58%

Morphine bioavalibility: ~25% (oral)

IV'ing anything gives you 100%. I have a pretty decent tollerance and did 90mg morphine in one shot. It's defiantly a stronger opiate than hydromorphine IMO. Hydromorphine is really only good for the awesome rush when IV'ed. Morphine has legs and is a pretty strong and euphoric opiate... possibly my new favorite.

I know you don't IV and I wouldn't recommend you start now but just keep those numbers in mind. If you want an opiate with high oral bioavalibility go with oxycodone.

Anyway, from my experience 8-16mg hydromorphone equals about 60-90mg morphine when IV'ed. Although the morphine numbers could actually be lower because I haven't touched hydromorphone in a month or so and my tolerance has risen in that time.

Taking morphine orally really is pointless if your looking for a good high, maybe try plugging it if your into that, suppose to be a decent amount better, but still wont be great.

A study from the Journal of Anesthesia & Analgesia called "Pharmacokinetics and Bioavailability of Single-Dose Intranasal Hydromorphone Hydrochloride..." showed that intranasal bioavailability was ~55% +/- 10% but some volunteers absorbed upwards of 78%.

Intranasal hydromorphone is ~6x stronger than morphine. When you were snorting 20mg daily that was equivalent to 12mg of Hydromorphone absorbed after insufflation. That would be equivalent to ~72mg Morphine (after absorption).

Therefore, the amount of morphine before absorption that you should take daily would be 72/.3 = 240mg of Orally administered Morphine.

Also, oral morphine works very well for many people for pain & 240mg would definitely be euphoric. It can also be snorted with a bioavailability of ~60% when mixed in a homogenous mixture with chitosan. To be effective use 6x as much Chitosan per mg. [Ex: 15mg of Morphine should be mixed with 90mg of Chitosan.]

Morphine has lost popularity to the increase in hydrocodone & oxycodone prescriptions that are more stimulating and easier to abuse. However, it is great when properly prepared & with the right dosage.
