Totally different, OC! The length of time it takes to start WD's and the length of the actual WD depends highly on the elimination half-life and dosage one stops at. For the average metabolism, Oxy's half-life is around four hours and bupe's is on average 36 hours, but can be up to three days, again depending on how long one has been on bupe and the dose one stops at. When SWIM came off of bupe, he stopped at .5mg. And the mental WD started right away, but the physical WD always seemed to break through around day four, as SWIM has stopped a few times before last.
When SWIM came onto BL in search for hope, it was day seven, and SWIM was unbelievably depressed. In fact, it was the worst depression SWIM had encountered, keeping in mind he had been treated for it for several years, only to have stopped meds and to find out the bupe was covering it up the whole time. So, your main concern from day one of sobriety is to seek out a psychiatrist, or see your PCP. The depression was the main thing that kept the idea of relapsing so easy.
So, just throwing some numbers around, you can expect to START to feel relief from post acute WD's a month and a half (45days) to two months (60days). SWIM sought professional help way too late and just only made it harder for himself. Another number that SWIM felt important was day 145--that's the last day he stopped counting. So make it easier on yourself and get help right away, because you will need it unless you want to relapse a few times first.
Final thoughts, SWIM sees a psychiatrist every 3-4 weeks and is on Wellbutrin SR (for the motivation one will lack) one SSRI (for the low serotonin and lack of happiness) and an SNRI for the norepinephrine, a combo of anxiolytics--Klonopin and Neurontin (GREAT COMBO)--a sleep aid, and finally and surprisingly Lorcet 10's 4x a day, as SWIM just had a procedure. SWIM hasn't had to rely on bupe for over 300 days(lost track), and hasn't felt more comfortable with life, as life seems possible now. Feel free to PM me...Thanks.aBunch at Rocketmail [dot] com. Good luck, and it will get easier.
