i've been coming off suboxone by switching to hydrocodone the first 12 days of withdrawal (about 50mg of hydro throughout this duration), and also used MXE to help when i stopped taking the hydrocodone after 12 days. it is now day 17 of my suboxone WD and been about 5 days without taking the hydrocodone. during this 17 day period i have been dosing xanax and ativan to ease the anxiety and go to sleep. i've maybe taken a total of 14mg of xanax and 7mg of ativan during this suboxone WD phase, but i'm rather scared of becoming dependent on the benzos now...

usually, in the past when attempting to come off suboxone, i would use benzos no more than 10-14 days and found little to no WD symptoms. now i'll be on my way to 3 weeks of daily use and would like to come off after that (i just fear i won't be able to sleep - which isn't the best case scenario for a full-time philosophy/psych student in college). i have a past history of abusing benzos, but i have not abused them for quite some time now (4 years or so). will my past abuse/dependence effect the amount of days until dependence sets in for the benzos currently?

thanks!

You're likely okay, the best thing to do would be to get your hands on some clonazepam or diazepam and to taper yourself off. Ive been able to take Xanax for a month and quit cold turkey with minimum withdrawals but its not really the type of drug where it's safe to just "see how it goes CT". If you can't get clonazepam or Valium, than use the lorazepam and try and taper with that as its longer acting than Xanax, though still not ideal
