Hey guys,

I apologize if this post has been made. I searched extensively and couldn't find anything or I wasn't using the right search parameters!

I'm 12 hours off my last dose of oxy (about 250mg/day habit) and took 1mg suboxone about 45 minutes ago. I currently feel better than I was 45 minutes ago, but I'm not sure if it's just a placebo as I was experiencing mostly restless leg (the bulk of my symptoms) and running nose & anxiety. I am wondering how long should I wait until I know if I will experience precipitated withdrawal symptoms?

How long should I wait until I take an additional 1mg to help combat my withdrawal symptoms?

Thank you all for your advice & help!

I have method loads of times to detox off heroin, its more about the WD symptoms you are feeling rather than the time. I dont think 1mg will put you in to precipitated w/ds but you should probably wait til you feel full on WD symptoms to dose again. If you have enough sub to keep you comfortable through the whole things, I wouls suggest to start with a 4 mg dose and keep taking 2mg more if you dont feel better, The first day is all about getting your levels of suboxone up and then you wont have to take much at all the next few days. This has been my expirence at least.

Thanks for your help and the info!

So far, I feel fine, if not better than I'd expect. I will try and wait until this evening to dose again. I will probably take 2mg and see where it goes.

The whole issue of precipitated withdrawal is something that often gets over blown in my opinion-they suck, but I personally can't wait 24 hours without an opiate, so when I was prescribed Suboxone I'd usually just take it at about the 12 hour mark and sometimes it would precipitate withdrawals and sometimes it wouldn't. Either way though, precipitated withdrawals really don't last too long, and if your already withdrawing than taking buprenorphine ahead of time will only make things worse for 1-3 hours before it will make things better.

Thanks for the info. Things have been better today, albeit frequent bouts of severe depression. I'm hoping that will go away with time, but I'm ready to face that music without drugs.

Thanks guys!

I'm glad you seemed to have adjusted to the Suboxone. I imagine that you might feel a bit more solid on a higher dosage for the first day or two. Whenever I switched back to Suboxone, I would usually take at least 4-8mg to ward off withdrawal and keep me feeling normal for a good 24 hours. After two days I'd then taper rapidly down to a low dosage of 1-2mg/day. I'm not sure if your intention is to kick your habit or if its to stay on Suboxone, but either way, you might want to try what I suggest. Dosing low is great and all but IME I really needed to feel as far from withdrawal as possible for that transitional period. It also gave me an incentive not to go out and waste money on drugs that wouldn't get me high.

Anyway best of luck.

Precipitated withdrawals are not overblown. They put me in a state where i was literally crying for my mommy. Felt like my back was broken never experienced such a level of physical and mental pain with normal cold turkey withdrawal , even with a huge fent kick things still felt manageable. Granted the pw don't last very long unless you are quitting methadone still they should not be underestimated IMO.

Hey Ferox- just wondering what doses you took today and how you've been feeling? I'm planning yet another 3-4 day sub taper and this time I only have 2 strips (16mgs) to come off about a 1/2g of h a day. Keep me updated on the rest of your detox if you can. Thanks.

I agree if the suboxone is taken sublingually. I've precipitated withdrawals a few times and the only time it felt unmanageable was when I ived the bupe. Otherwise it seems to come on slow enough that the bupe starts working it's magic before it gets horrendous.

Taking suboxone after opiates is not so much about how much time its been, but how much withdrawal you are experiencing. There's also something called the COWS scale, you can Google it. It rates you on a number system on how much withdrawal you are in. And also will tell you when it is safe to take suboxone depending on what number score you get
