How long to abstain from alcohol and ciggies before physical?

So I have a physical in a bit over a week and I'm wondering how long I should abstain from alcohol and ciggies as to not skew the results? I think the main things being measured that would be affected by alcohol and ciggies are BP, pulse rate, Pulse rythm, Urinalysis, Blood, Glucose and protein.

My opinion is any long-term damage has already been done. As far immediate results, cut back on alcohol intake.

I plan to have a dry week next week. Just wondering how long it will cause abnormalities in my system for. I had a physical last year and the only thing wrong was some of my protein levels were off but apparently it was normal considering I had drank the night before. Aside from the bad habit of alcohol and cigarettes I am generally pretty healthy. I am also fairly young so I don't think the damage has been done yet

Really impossible to say even if you were more descriptive. How much and how long have you been smoking and drinking? How old are you?

Smoking will acutely raise your blood pressure for an hour or two, but also chronically raises it which takes weeks to recover from. It takes the body about a week or two to really stabilize and return to proper water levels after alcohol abuse.

I would say 6hr for smoking and at least 72hr after drinking to begin having remotely accurate results. This is based on nothing other than a pseudoeducated guess and my own meandering experiences.

I'm in my mid twenties and I've been smoking for maybe a couple of years and drinking regularly for about 6 years. Despite all this I am still physically fit. Honestly from what I've read elsewhere and what you are saying I should be fine if I just abstain from it next week :)

alcohol only shows up in your system for like 12 - 24 hours

There is a metabolite that lasts about 72 hours though --- so abstain for at least that long plus a few hours before hand.

Other than that if there is any cumulative damage you probably want to know about it anyways? (It will come out but alcohol may not be presumed the cause, although its the most likely option)

Mid 20s I am sure you are fine. Cumulative damage is prolly at least a decade away. I did have a friend die from drinking at 34-36 (I forget how old he was but we went to HS, helped eachother graduate early through a shortcut).

He drank like 2 fifths a day towards the end of his life though. Fuckin Fireball -- prolly one of the worst picks healthwise but I dont know it matters much
