Ok, I was placed on Celexa around the middle of October for anxiety attacks. I stopped taking it about 3 weeks ago because A)It's a crutch that I don't want to continue and B)I have since quit working at the HIGH stress hell-hole of a restaurant

My question is, about how long will this take to be completely out of my system? I don't want to roll while it's still floating around somewhere in my body. Should it be gone by now? I'm sure this is posted somewhere, but I wanted to know about Celexa...not Paxil, Zoloft, whatever. THanks!

I'd say it'd be out of your system in 3 weeks to a month if you were taking it for less than a couple of years. If you think discontinuing your meds is right for you, go for it. But it pains me to see people not take needed psychiatric drugs just because they think they're a crutch. Some illness are circumstantialy aggrevated and come and go, but you'll most likely always have that chemical imbalance. If you need the meds to function normally and live the most fullfilling life possible, then you shouldn't discontinue them.

Thanks for your reply and concern, really. I only stopped the meds after my last Dr. appt. Basically what he told me was the Celexa was more of an experiment to see how my anxiety would do under the drugs. He also told me all that "crap" could be brought on by my job. Since changing jobs and learning how to chill out under stress, everything is great! I feel great, and my doc and I both agree I could go w/o the meds...since not taking them I feel awesome too! I agree with you about people not taking them for my same reasons...those "people" being the ones who REALLY need it. But thanks again for your post!!

Half life of Celexa is 24~27 hours if my memory serves me correctly. So you should be mostly clear of it within oh, 3 or 4 days...
I am on it currently and really havent noticed much benefit (3 weeks @20mg)
Best of luck to you

Thanks Denial.
A lot of people I know said that they never felt a difference on Celexa. Maybe mine was all mental
