Heyyyy all,
having a bit of a chocolate rush so I felt liking making a new thread.. As the title says, Im wondering how long have you gus first been using the inernet? And what made you first use it? Do you like it/LOVE it/hate it/whatever??
me personally.. 1988 I think(maybe '89). To play this online game thing called M.U.D. I then 'properly' used it in '90 when I hit uni and got my first email address.. And used IRC in '91. God, Im one of the godfathers of the net I think? At least these days, it pays the bills for me

I sit at work all day on irc/web surfing/email and get paid for it.. ahh, what a life..
But I aint addicted to the net, 2 years ago, I didnt touch the net for 11 months becuase my then girlfriend hated the net so I just never bothered to use it..ramble ramble ramble..

I've been bashing on keyboards longer than I care to remember. But this post makes me remember the first internet I ever heard of.
I'd say it was 10 years or so ago and we heard rumors of this so called computer thingy you could hook up to on your phone and it had all the porno in the world.
Thats what the net is for aint it.....?

got my first modem in 94 - for no other reason than the whole concept of the Internet fascinated me
smile.gif
Almost immediately I found a funny little program called "NSCHAT" which lead me to IRC, which lead me to meeting many 'computery' sorta ppl and from there..my life as a wannabe geek was quick to emerge
smile.gif

I love it - have learnt so much and been given so many opportunities purely due to the things I've found and the people I've met/spoken to...tis all good

since 93/4 .... so damn long ago that I can't remember why and how as well.

muzby first went online in 1995...
why?
cause he was sick of looking at porn in magazines!!
just kidding..
it was for school..
they wanted us to be "technologically advanced"

Well, thats my 2.2c worth (inc. GST). I'll be in the corner if anyone needs me....

I think my first online experience was at my dads office, they were connected to the internet and i used it for school... and i thought why not. i'll look up extra stuff.. mainly included american basketball, video games and porn...
then shit just progressed from there i think...
this woulda been 1995/6'ish ? Shit i've been "online" for that long...

i think it was around 1995, same year as the BEST OS was created

hehehe j/k.
the only reason anyone got online was for the free porn. how i feel sorry for the youth of today getting online. free porn is alot harder to get axs too..
anyway i love the net, i use it daily. i personally dont think i could live without it. especially for the news i receive daily.
i must admit, life b4 the net was exciting too, BBS days, WOW the memories... i still have my bbs i created zipped up on one of my backup cds somewhere... i think it ended up being about an 80mb zip file
smile.gif

RA BBS (Random Access BBS) if i remember correctly.. any u guys remember the old skool bbs days... ANSI gfx

the memories are good, atleast the drugs havent fried those brain cells

Computer games dont affect kids. I mean, if Pac Man affected us as kids, we'd all run around in a darkened rooms munching pills and listening to repetitive music.

i started using the net about 96 i think. have had a dialup connection for all those years until now. Now i have cable for endless porn at high speed
smile.gif

free porn is easier to get now adays!!
and due to broadband, free porn doesnt just come in jpeg & gif anymore... it comes in mpeg and avi!!
wink.gif

I remember RA BBS, i remember my parentals spewin, due to my INSANE high phone bill.. rofl.. 'woopsie!'

hey, I kind of remember old skool BBS's. Well I was ever on 2 in australia. Druids Keep and a local Geelong one Another World. But I was on a few international ones. Park Central Akira etc..

started using... 92
My usage went through the roof when I bought a new computer in 97 after not having one for a year after moving out. Got the net for entertainment because shift work left me awake when noone else was.
In a way, that changed my life.... I remembered how much I liked working with computers, eventually left work to do comp sci at uni.
*shrug*

Been using it for about five years, since I arrived in Australia in fact, just to keep up with the English soccer at first but now for anything that makes a tedious day at work seem shorter.

elver: I know that feeling about MUDDING. When I was at uni, 90-92, the uni only allowed telneting to MUDS from 6pm till 8am. Of course, us MUD heads back then got to uni at 5, met at the cafe.. Ate, worked out plans on what to kill/group/loot/etc for the night kind of (there was abotu 10-20 of us). Go to the comp lab rooms at 5:50. Get onto the sparc workstations, set up xterms etc.. and try to login at 5:59 non stop to get tintin aliases to get the good eq first.. Next thing you know, its 8am, the telnet'ing quits and we go 'oh no.. 8am'. Have many stories about the shit we used to get up to. One was this guy running down the hallway in the computer labrooms (deakin uni Geelong) yelling "WHO KILLED ME?!?! Dont steal my treasure!" which got the telneting of MUDS banned during the day. And then the total banning, so we had to resort to using Macs (ugh!) back then cause they still had telnet priviledges to the outside world. I use to dream/think/play MUD for like 2-3 years (besides getting drunk/stoned on weekends) my whole uni life.. Dropped out of Uni cause I got bored and went into the real life..

My father sat me behind an 8086 when I was five... That was 1989...
Started using bulletin boards with a 2400 bps modem (which I still have) during 1992... I was eight years old... Don't ask me how, but I didn't see much porn. Dad did only leave me 3 bulletin board numbers, so I'm assuming they were harmless ones.
First used it in 1992 at the ABC, where my dad works... Used it a few times there till we finally got it at home with a Pentium 133 (hey! it was da bomb) in late 95/early 96.
Anyone who has been around long enough to see have seen the days of terminals being the top of line gets the biggestdickofthebluelightcomputerworld award.

i am so late in getting into this whole new fangled internet thingy, i seriously didn't access until early 2000, when i finally got my own computer with a modem so i could tak it away with me to uni...
i didn't have an email address until then, i hadn't really touched the net until then... i didn't really see the point... how deluded was i as a teenager...

Elver: Level 41 Mystic? Nice work... At the end of my BBS days I actually sold my level 43 Ranger for $250 ... which is a hell of a lot less than I put into it, but Meh, you know how it was... Actually you said sysop didn't you? ...bastard, I had to pay for my time

The true nerds are revealed ... those who wrote their own scripts rather than using one found on a BBS somewhere writen by some guy in america... I didn't quite get there, but I never found a script that I really liked so modified the ones I found... hmm, I wonder if I've got all of those scripts and logs stored somewhere...
wink.gif

I started with BBS' sometime in high school, woulda been around 93-95, then moved onto the internet sometime before the end of high school, 95-97
